Keep a very big trust on Muslims politicians (not the general public) is a risk, when we see the history of SL politics. They are always loyal to the high gain point.

This is the problem. If Sri Lanka is one country, branding by ethnicity should be banned. But, it is going on still 60 years after independence. This is the greatest failure of Sinhalese administrators who ruled the country.

Even here, the so-called fellow Sri Lankans cannot come together. So, it is better to forget about one unitary nation and devide the country on ethnic lines. It will be the best option for each ethnic group.

This is a lame excuse. Human beings have their biasness.

However great nations are built by intelligent leaders who have the capacity to overcome these biasness.

Sinhalese never were able to elect an 'intelligent' leader to govern the country. They only elected racists!

But we can t expect things to turn around overnight.

Unless we change our thinking, things will never turnaround. Just look at the philosophy of the two leading parties. Every time UNP has been in power it has advocated an open economy and no sooner the govt changes we have practiced protectionism. Today we have not developed the economy in relation to trade nor are we self-sufficient in anything.

It takes time to built trust among communities but we need to keep working at it.

We cannot make wrong decisions and expect communities to trust each other. Decisions should be based on greater good of the population and empowerment of society. When everyone is working to-wards a better future for all then the trust will grow on its own. When selected communities are targeted it only polarizes society.

Main thing is that there is some democratic system in operation.

We have lied to ourselves for too long and now started believing in it. No system is democratic if it does not provide equal opportunity for all.

If INdia continues to support the human rights violations of Sri Lanka when in fact making statements to the contrary and ban LTTE it cannot be an honest broker of peace negotiations between the antogonisors.

India has never been and will never be a honest broker, it has too much of its interest to protect in SL and its south. This does not mean that it is good for GOSL at the rate at which India might invest in SL in the next 10 years will dictate whether it would be a partner with SL or make it a colony.

LTTE still uses Tamil Nadu as supply base

NEW DELHI: The Centre has extended the ban on the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) as an unlawful association by two years. The notification to this effect was issued on Wednesday, according to a Home Ministry release here.

The LTTE, an association based in Sri Lanka, has sympathisers, supporters and agents on Indian soil. The group s objective for a separate homeland for all Tamils threatens the sovereignty and territorial integrity of India, the notification said.

It said the LTTE continues to be an extremely potent, most lethal and well organised terrorist force in Sri Lanka and has strong connections in Tamil Nadu and certain other pockets of southern India.

The LTTE also continues to use Tamil Nadu as the base for carrying out smuggling of essential items like petrol and diesel besides drugs to Sri Lanka.

The notification said the LTTE will continue to remain a strong terrorist movement and stimulate the secessionist sentiment to enhance the support base of the LTTE in Tamil Nadu as long as Sri Lanka continues to remain in a state of ethnic strife, torn by the demand for Tamil Eelam which finds strong echo in Tamil Nadu due to the linguistic, cultural, ethnic and historical affinity between the Sri Lankan Tamils and the Indian Tamils in Sri Lanka.

The LTTE, led by V. Prabhakaran, has been proscribed as a terrorist organisation by several countries including the U.S. It was also involved in the assassination of the former Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, in May 1991.

Premadasa was not a racist.

Most Tamil politicians were also racist.

Sri Lankan democracy is still in primitive stage. We didn t have a leader who could implement a system that no one discriminated.

Western democracies evolved over centuries. We had democracy for only 60. It will eventually evolve in to more practical workable system.

Well done India. Keep another 2-3 years then SL will look after other part of LTTE. SL has determined to wipe put LTTE from SL with any cost.
