AnuD:
This is a lie. TamilNADU came into existence since 1960s.
LOL i thought you meant that the fact he was a Tamil was a lie :))
OK. call it 'Tamizhagam' alrighty?
It was a tamil Monk but from North part of the South India. when whole South India was mostly Buddhists, Tamils were JAINISTS.
He WAS a TAMIL so whats the big deal????
by the way there were tamil Buddhists TOO. how the hell can the second most important Buddhist(after buddha) be a Tamil and yet you claim Tamils were jains only!??
lol!
How many Buddhist temples are in TamilNADU while most of North India had so many Buddhist Sites ?
LOL did it ever occur to you that Tamil Buddhists might have been following 'true buddhism'..a religion that does NOT advocate the building of 'temples'????
Initially, Buddha did not have have any temples and lived under trees. At that time, it was mainly a missionary religion. Later when Buddhism became popular all over India that habit died down. Because, people built monasteries so that monks did not have to live under trees during the rainy season.
^^that goes against Buddha's teaching..but then again i guess 'renunciation' does not include shelter from the rain.
