Sintamus,
LTTE made blunders and mistakes because of wrong actions taken based on hate or revenge. If Sinhala leaders want to trod on the same path the results will be equally disastrous

Agreed. LTTE has to realize that too. If the east could be stabilized regardless of what happens in the north, a lot of people will hopefully see that bent on killing each other is not a way of life. Forget about all the millions of dollars and all the life this conflict has sucked out of our country. Look how it has polarized people and how the value of human life means next to nothing now. Can you afford this to continue ?

Gonnamba,

You don't seem to know that the policy of holding on to absolute power to dismiss or dissolve EPC will backfire and haunt the president at the centre.

Promising CM to Pillaiyan and Hisbulla by Basil itself is dishonesty. Dishonesty will not resolve anything but it's going to divide Muslims and Tamils. Allowing Pillaiyan is very unwise because he is going to use it against Muslims.

Always choosing the wrong aand dishonest people will backfire. Pillaiyan is a terrorist whether he is with VP or Karuna or MR. Unless you realise this you dig your own grave and bury the young lives.

Just don't get involved. I wasted a lot of time talking to Sintamus today. No point. He refuses to see anything else other than what he is programmed to see. What a shame.

how come you conventionally forgot the intimidation by ampara bomb and shellings in ampara and trinco which resulted in less voter turner outs specially in ampara which would have gone for govt.

FYI, Polling was the highest in Ampara with 69.4%, followed by Trinco with 62.1% and Batticaloa with 61.1%. Your theory of violence and low polling is most relevant to Batti where Pillayan's goon were having a field day. Obviously, Ampara had the minimal violence, relatively speaking, with the highest polling.

Get your facts right, smart Alec.

On how free and fair the election was, read the Sunday Times. Here are some interesting quotes.

'By Friday, violence and incidents of elections violations were reaching fearful proportions amidst fears expressed by the main opposition alliance that violence and the wide-scale rigging might turn the eastern poll into another Wayamba'.

'The abuse of state or public vehicles, other property and facilities for party propaganda was blatantly carried out on a wide-scale. Scores of cabinet ministers virtually took up residence in the three districts of the province and launched a multitude of projects ranging from water and electricity supplies schemes to carpeted highways and a new port. They also allegedly doled out Samurdhi benefits to thousands of people who were not getting those benefits or not eligible for then - apparently in return for a betel vote at yesterday's poll'.

'The storm over the abuse of state property and resources for personal or party gain or glory was spotlighted by the timing of the launch of the Oluwil port project. It had on the boards for decades and was finally launched a day before the deadline for campaigning ended'.

Agreed. My guess is that the govt had no intention of giving the CM post to a Muslim, whether Hisbullah or any other. It always wanted Pillayan for more than one reason. The govt correctly calculated that it has to divide the Muslim votes in addition to massive rigging and violence to ensure that Pillayan would come out on top. Hisbullah neatly fell into the govt's trap.

While Pillayan will be free to implement his mission against Muslims in the Batti district, the govt can continue unhindered in its plan to Sinhalise the Ampara and Trinco districts. The sufferers are going to be Muslims, thanks to Hisbullah and other selfish Muslim politicians from the East.
