For the first time in 20 years the people of Sri Lanka`s Eastern Province are exercising their democratic rights today as the voting at the Eastern provincial council elections commenced this morning despite the LTTE bomb attacks in the region earlier.
Amid high security voters had already turned up at polling centers to cast their ballots in the crucial election. Sri Lankan government has deployed a 20,000 strong contingent of security personnel and 15,000 poll officers to man the election.
Authorities said all officers have been given strict orders to protect law and order and if necessary to use force to prevent any incidents and to ensure free and fair elections.
Voting takes place in 1,070 polling centers in three districts, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Ampara. A total of 982,721 voters will elect 37 members to the Eastern provincial council.
Despite the heightened security measures suspected LTTE Tigers bombed and sank an empty navy cargo ship docked in the Trincomalee harbor in the pre dawn hours of Saturday.
On Friday evening Tigers exploded a bomb in a cafe in the eastern town of Ampara, killing 11 and injuring 29 people.
The election, being held after government troops liberated the East from Tiger control is seen as a major victory for the government and a boost to continue the campaign against the Tigers to similarly liberate the North.

Tamil Tiger bomb attacks fail to disrupt polls
Whether the bomb was meant to disrupt the polls is of course doubtful as it would be clear to any individual that one bomb (unless it was an atom bomb or such other) is not going to disrupt the poll in the Eastern Province!
However what is clear from the bomb is that, contrary to govt reports that the east was free of the LTTE and also rendering futile govt claims that there are 32000 security personnel ensuring a closed net security in the polling regions the LTTE was able to explode a very powerful bomb, making their presence felt in that region!

This news report would have been written by Defense.lk or Asiatribune.com or any of the Government controlled media.
AP reporter writes as if he did witness the bombings. |

Wick uncle,
But, I remember you have called all the Tamils are terrorists!
Once you mentioned that all the Tamils are responsible for the bomb blast in Colombo (Fort station, Piliyandala, etc)
Don't you contradict or those words were just slipped off when you were angry??? |

Is there any Tamil, who have guts, to say no to any assistance requested by a LTTE Tiger for destruction?
If you say no, then my statement is correct.
If you say YES then he or she is not Tamil but a Sri Lankan.
Once you mentioned all the Tamils are responsible for the bomb in Colombo (Fort station, Piliyandala, etc.)
LTTE is responsible for all bombing and other destruction have been doing in this country. Am I correct?
Without Tamils and their support there wouldn t be a LTTE.
Hence Tamils are responsible for bombing and other destructions.
Simple pure logic.

Mr. Wick,
[Is there any Tamil, who have guts, to say no to any assistance requested by a LTTE Tiger for destruction? ]
There are many Tamils who refused to help them!
[If you say no, then my statement is correct.
If you say YES then he or she is not Tamil but a Sri Lankan. ]
I can't give one answer as there are many to reply this. So I will tick both answers.
[Sri Lankan].
How many of us use this term?
Honestly tell me how do you fill in a form when it asks you
'Nationality- .......'
Do you just put 'Sri lankan'?? or 'Sri Lankan Sinhalese' or 'Sinhalese'.
First of all we have to remove that option from all the forms. All should mark it as Sri Lankan.!!
