Prorogation of Parliament by the president could be termed as an attempt to rule the country with the help of Pillian, says opposition leader Ranil Wickremasinghe.
Opposition leader Wickremasinghe said that the government is trying to prevent the exposure of its corruption in the guise of the prorogation during the provincial council elections.
He accused the government of not discussing the prorogation while parliamentary agenda had already been made for the next few days.
Chief government whip, Minister Nimal Siriparla de Silva defending the president`s decision said this was not the first time that the parliament has been prorogued.
He said it was done according to the constitution, the architect of which is Opposition leader`s uncle, former President J.R.Jayawardena.
However, unlike the United National Party which prorogued parliament for longer periods of three months, President Rajapaske has it only for a month.
The prorogation has been done considering the requests by the opposition which said that they needed a few days away from parliament as they are involved in the provincial council election.
Minister Silva rejected Wickremasinghe`s claim that with the prorogation all Parliamentary committees and bills become null and void.
He said committees could be reconstituted and bills presented again once Parliament commences on 5th of June.

| Addressing the Indian parliament on January 2, 1978, President Jimmy Carter said, 'Democracy is like the experience of life itself - always changing, infinite in its variety, sometimes turbulent and all the more valuable for having been tested for adversity.' Taken in the context of Sri Lanka, this compelling description of democracy by President Carter, involuntarily moves to a more powerful echelon of thought, for, democracy in Sri Lanka has indeed been tested more than once, for adversity. And, it is an achievement of considerable significance, that despite the challenges it had to face over the years, the democratic fabric of our country yet remains intact. In fact, it ought to be said that, the strength of democracy in any country should be assessed, not when those countries are enjoying relative peace, security and prosperity, but when they are compelled to face adversity, and challenges, which threaten the very sinews of freedom and democracy. This is the case of Sri Lanka: |

Traitor Ranil is the only Prime Minister in the world who made official arrangements celebrate the invasion of his/her OWN COUNTRY...
Traitor Ranil as Prime Minister of Sri Lanka in 2002, went to the Portugal and arranged to celebrate the 1505 portuguese invasion of Sri Lanka in 2005. Even the Portuguese themselves were not too interested in clelbrating the 500th aniversary of the Sri Lankan invasion, but Prime Minister of Sri Lanka (Traitor Ranil) insisted and they said OK. It is understandable that the Portugese Govt. couldn't go against the wishes of the Prime Minister of the Nation they invaded in 1505....
Luckily by 2005, Mahinda was President and Traitor Ranil had lost the Premiership, so the Tretcherous Ranil was out of luck..
Luckily for Luckily for Sri Lanka, we the Gamiya's were given an opportunity to 'Throw out' Traitor Ranil from the Premiership before the actual celebrations took place
