How can the toll be this much? This is terrible.
Yes indeed, but maybe a blessing in disguise to change the military junta, if it is indeed so massive, they will have to let foreign nationals in or face the wrath of their people.
of course the cowardly Sri Lankan government will have nothing to do with this as they beg from even the Burhmese junta right? Did you hear a peep when the monks there were fighting for their rights...oh what a 'divine' land of Buddhism indeed :):) |

I am waiting to see that the Sri Lankan monks would come out soon saying this is punishment to Myanmar for killing Buddhist monks by the military regime!

This is one of the most unusual weather disasters.
Generally, cyclones are hitting north east India or Bangladesh.
In normal situation, heavy damage is coming from flood coming from the cyclone, and not the disastrous wind. But, in this case, all wind, waves, and flood hit Myanmar.
Myanmar never had this level of impact in recent history.
And its another sad lesson to our countries to be prepared for disasters, putting away our ethnic lunacy.
See, when the mother nature is going wrong, it doest discriminate.
All have to pay the bill.

If you remember we got hit bad although not to this extent around mid to late 70's.
The major damage is caused because of the poor housing structures and generally these people live in large numbers related to the size of the area.
I know its not their choice but poverty dictates it but they are the ones who get the worst from any disaster. |

DVL,
The major damage is caused because of the poor housing structures and generally these people live in large numbers related to the size of the area.
(I did some works on this field.)
Before 1080s, the damage always coming due to poor accuracy of weather forecasting and storm tracking. People even went to deep see, since they dint get the good forecast.
In Myanmar case, you are correct, poor building structures must gave a big damage, when the deadly wind came.
Also, intensive level of weather forecasting may not have in that country.
More violent typhoons or hurricanes are coming to Japan and the US, but damage is much low. |

What a tragedy! This is worse than the tsunami. Idiotic junta. I hope some of them got blown away.
Now let's all start blaming the Rajapakse bros and the SLDF for this. I see we've already got a headstart. |

This very clearly shows your poor and bios approach to the national problem.
You must have a rest and come back to LNP. |
