The Somawansa Amarasinghe faction of the JVP yesterday took up the gauntlet thrown down by the dissidents and vowed to sack parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa if he went ahead with his much advertised threat of forming a new political party unless the estrangement was sorted out by May 1.
Forming a new party would be against the JVP constitution and this would end his membership, which he said, could also end due to natural causes .
General Secretary of the party Tilvin Silva admitted that the dissident parliamentary group leader was in hiding since April 21.
`We tried to trace him but his contact numbers and his residences have been changed. He has obtained a new security cover. He could still come to the Party head office and discuss the problems with us and this internal problem could be sorted out. Yet he has gone into hiding,` Silva told a press conference at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute.
The JVP Central Committee would oust him since he was going round the country criticising the party, he said. `Wimal has given us a deadline but has not mentioned when his new party would be formed. Thus, we cannot say whether the Central Committee sacking him would come first or his forming of a party would end his membership first.`
Attempts to contact Tilvin Silva to clarify what he meant by the term, natural causes were not successful since he was not answering his mobile phone.
Powers of conferring and revoking of party membership, according to the JVP Constitution, is vested with the Central Committee of the party and Weerawansa could be sacked over non-participation and on disciplinary grounds, a central committee source told The Island.
These were only two of the causes that led to the termination of the party membership of an individual and the term natural causes meant the death of a member, he said.
Allegations against Weerawansa, he said, would be made public at the next party convention scheduled for May 27 at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium.
The Central Committee would meet prior to that and prepare the list of new officials for the party. The names would be forwarded to the membership for their approval, he said.
The last convention was held November 13, 2002 at the same venue.
Meanwhile, sources close dissident JVP MP Nandana Gunathilake said his life was in danger and he was in hiding.
They declined to specify the quarters threats to his life emanated from.

Wimal will never go to the JVP office BUT the JVP will have to come to Wimal..........
This will never happen..........
Therefore, Wimal is as good as being out of the JVP.
This Sack and things are aftermath matters to save face.
Somawansa can join hands with VP to commence another round of India bashing or take a contract from the LTTE for it.
FOR AND ONBEHALF OF LTTE.......... |

Rebirth is no self destruction
Fading lamp cannot produce flaming by adding oil. Shinning result will glitter flame, replacing with a better wick.
Who is better than Mr. Wimal Weerawansa in giving light to the devided JVP and mostly to our country by supporting peace and harmony uniting the Nation.
