UNDP worker arrested with a Micro pistol - Vavuniya
An UNDP worker who is working under World Food Program (WFP) was arrested with a Micro pistol by the security forces at Irattaperiyakulam road block in Vavuniya this afternoon, April 30.
The suspect, Thiagaraja Prabhakaran, was a resident of Batticaloa and he is currently working at the UNDP Kilinochchi office, sources said. The suspect was travelling from Kilinochchi to Batticaloa when he was arrested around 12.45 p.m.
While cross-questioning, the suspect confessed that a terror agent have given this micro pistol and asked him to handover it to a person in Batticaloa. 'The terrorists have promised to give him sum of 50,000.00 rupees once complete the task', he added. An initial payment, sum of 30,000.00 rupees, which had been given by the terrorist, was also apprehended.
The suspect was handed over to the Vavuniya Police for further investigations

I guess the only realistic way is a military coup.
I too have suggested this many times although this is considered like a dirty word in the civilized world. This goes to show the hopeless options available.
The worst thing is that SL does not have real political leaders who have the will to do what is right nor educate the population of the actual realities. Everyone is taking the easy way out by war mongering to be in power.
This has created a large workforce without productivity and an economy in the tank. I think if military coup is not an option then binding arbitration using the UN will be a better option for the whole country. To do this the mindset of the has to be changed. |

Medical student of Jaffna University shot dead

Unidentified gunmen shot and killed a former medical student of Jaffna University from Pottpathi Veethi, Kokkuvil, in Jaffna at his house on Tuesday around 7:00 p.m, sources in Jaffna said. The victim is alleged to have been working for the Intelligence Unit of Sri Lanka Army (SLA), and said to have collaborated in the killings, and abductions in Jaffna peninsula, the sources added.
The former medical student killed was identified as Gunaratnam Suhantheepan.
Suhantheepan had earlier worked for the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).

I don't believe this. For 50,000 you can buy it locally in Batti, you don't have to carry it from the North.
I wont be surprised if more and more civilians get armed. This is normal in any country where there is no law and order. |
