Lankan News Replies

A powerful bomb was found and defused at a crowded bus station in northwestern Sri Lanka early Monday, minutes before the device had been set to go off, police said.

The parcel bomb equipped with a timing device was discovered in Galgamuwa, some 100 kilometres (62 miles) north of the capital Colombo, police said.

`Passengers alerted the police and the bomb was defused just in time,` a police official said. `There were ball bearings packed into the bomb and they could have caused a lot of casualties.`

The device was similar to one which exploded in an overcrowded bus Friday just outside Colombo, killing 26 people and injuring 63. The attack was blamed by authorities on separatist Tamil Tiger rebels.

Just a matter of time till the next bomb goes off somewhere killing a few. Then the politicians and most of those around the world issue statements condemning the attacks, then everything is forgotten and back to normal for another week or two till the next bomb goes off and the cycle repeats itself. That's life in Sri Lanka.

Yes keep your eyes opened!
Be more vigilant to catch the person. It is not that difficult to catch the terrorist by his behavior.Break the arms, legs and then hand over to the police as we need more informations about the others behind the act.

Easier said than done.

Why not come to Sri Lanka, do it and set an example and show how simple it is rather than try to be a 'pandithaya' while staying in Aussi.

I am just a villager expressing my humble anger against the terrorism and you are against it why?
Supposing I am living in Australia, am I not allowed to express my views.
Pleaser read your comment and others comments and tell me all are that practicable?
You say I am pandithaya and set an example! To judge me you should be an atipandithaya! .
After all what are we doing?Don't blame me.You are one who drag me into this!

You certainly are allowed to express your views, but refrain from coming out with stupid views such as 'breaking arms and legs and hand over to police', of all persons, a terrorist with a bomb!

How easy do you think it is to spot and catch a terrorist with a bomb on his or her body or inside a bag and then break the arms and legs before he or she blows up and then hand over to the police? Have you ever done it or at least do you know any ordinary civillian who has done it?

To comprehend as to how stupid your view is, one does not have to be a rocket scientist or an 'athi pandithaya'. Just ordinary common sense is sufficient.

Remember, no conventional military force in the world has ANY counter strategy against gurilla war tactics and suicide bombers. People living in countries with such dangers have to put up with it whether they like it or not. It is the same for Sri Lanka, and we have to live with it what ever any 'pundits' say.

Just defusing won't do. Set it in a Tamil congested area with a Tamil lad. Later we can say it got explode while carrying and accomplice too died.
