I agree
almost all of them would have signed up just cos of the high-pay...probably to pay for their sibling's educations...maybe to pay for a sister's wedding....how sad :((..:((
and i strongly believe that a lot started signing up for the army recently because they honestly believed the GOSL propaganda about the SLA kicking LTTE to kingdom come :((
the Tamil boys and girls are fighting to defend their land whereas these are fighting for money...the former don't have a choice while the latter do have a choice.
maybe those from the south should realize that 'quick money' comes with a heavy price...too heavy for the soldiers from the poor families who go to the front...not the posh rich kids who watch all these stuff on tv and say 'well..this is the price we lankan's have to pay to defend the country from terrorism'

SLA always blame the LTTE for that, but for sure, SLA is not better at all
SLA lacks military leadership...Fonseca is running the show from a script given to him.
Something will change soon. And for the sake of all, I hope there will be a cessation fire. It will be death to LTTE if the forces write their own play.

As for LTTE, you say they fight for a separate country, which is hard to believe, because if you take a child soldier at the age of 13, doesn't really know the story behind the separate country situation
I criticised LTTE in past threads, but in this situation SLA soldiers were not killed by child soldiers but by experienced cadres
I think everyone in Western countries or richer backgrounds in SL need to have more concern for all combatants. Even if SLA completely wipe out LTTE, the loss of 20,000 + soldiers will be a greater loss to more people. Similarly for LTTE, there should be more effort from diaspora to try and transform the LTTE into a politically mature organisation.

I feel the same pain when I see youngsters (Tamil or Singhalese) lose their lives to this bull-shit made up war.
Unfortunately 99% of the over 500 posts on this thread has failed to realize this. We don't know the true figures yet but by my estimate over 300 lives were lost over night, many young women became widows, and an unknown amount of able men turned into less productive citizens for the rest of their lives before they got any chance of enjoying life.
The social ill of the future are frightening and the future of SL is dark as ever. You can have some relief that there will be 300 less people trying to kill you but really there are no winners. |

Their(LTTE)fighting for freedam but our soldiers are fighting for Money(The Politican using our poor people).
I suggest each and every politican have to send either their Daughters or Sons for fighting withy LTTE.

The LTTE and the hooters lost one chance given to them with the CFA by going underground and strengthening the militia. Singhalese lost their chance when they elected this maniac. I think most of the people on both side of the issue now realize it is time to give peace another chance. I don't know what or who will oppose that idea for the Tamils but for the Singhalese, that will not be possible with MR and the goons holding the country hostage, robbing life out of the land they are supposed to enrich. |

Simple acid test to find out if one is for or against this destructive war is to ask the question
Is any of your sons or daughters in the war front?
1. If the answer is 'yes', you can be certain that the individual is against the war.
2. Alternatively if the answer is 'NO', that individual is for the war as he/she has nothing to lose but may gain.
All the war mongers in the forum, MPs, president and his men and women belong to the the second category, simply there is no loss but gain in commissions in arms purchases and big bribes in offering tenders. |
