did it not occur to any of you that the LTTE might have withdrawn the majority of its cadres from the first FDL 'Before' the attack commenced?

its a known fact that huge military assaults like these 'cannot' be prepared with total secrecy. especially when using MBT, etc etc.

The tigers could have put only a few cadres on the 1st FDL to put up some heavy 'token' fire to create the illusion of a heavily defended FDL.

Velir,

Yes, it is quite possible that the LTTE withdrew from the first FDL. What is remarkable is that the LTTE is said to have great difficulty getting supplies of munitions, whereas GOSL is getting huge amounts from Pakistan, China, and Slovakia.

freedom1:

LTTE artillery and mortar located between EP and Ponaryn were holding back SLA advance for long time. SLA knew all these facts. If this news item is correct, how SLA make such a mistake again?

somthing suspicious, did they use artillery and mortar
for 10 hours? If not, only 16 LTTE fighters dead?

-FL

unless the arty that you fire in copious amount is falling on/near the opponent you can fire arty for not 10 hours..in fact you can fire for 10 years and none would have died.

this just reinforces my belief that the SLA believes in firepower for firepower's sake!

i too am intrigued as to how the LTTE is able to use arty in such a manner. or maybe that they use it sparingly and not in the 'fire away till kingdom come' manner the SLA does?

we have to take the 'LTTE heavy arty barrage' claim by the SLA with a pinch of salt. its a known fact that the SLA arty power is maybe 10 times or more that of the LTTE. so how in heavens name can they call it 'heavy barrage' and use it as an excuse?....

cos im sure arty used in conjunction with good FO would be much more effective than arty fired for the sake of firing.

the spray-and-pray method is a waste
