Only 16 died in this major offensive? what happened to the number of wounded cadres?
Che,
I think the AFP/defencewire figure of 50 LTTE dead is realistic. I salute the brave dead and wounded of both sides.

LTTE withdraw and direct artillery fire from Civilian areas. Because of that, SLA is always at disadvantage.
AnuD,
Excellent analysis! But there are no civilian areas near the Muhamalai FDL.

did it not occur to any of you that the LTTE might have withdrawn the majority of its cadres from the first FDL 'Before' the attack commenced?
its a known fact that huge military assaults like these 'cannot' be prepared with total secrecy. especially when using MBT, etc etc.
The tigers could have put only a few cadres on the 1st FDL to put up some heavy 'token' fire to create the illusion of a heavily defended FDL.

From the sounds of it that is pretty much what happened, the SLA commanders then threw their forces into the pre marked kill zone and LTTE artillery did the rest. |

[According to defence.lk So far, 38 soldiers have laid their lives while 84 suffered injuries and they say they are waiting for more information]
Not so TRueReality:
According to Defence.LK
[1) Army still in 24 KM away from Mullaithevu in Oddusuddan after Jayasikkuru Ops]
[2) Army Is still in Elephantpass, paranthan and Kilinochi]
[3)Army is still in Mullaithevu and Alambil]
[4) Army and GOSL did not kill 35,000 sinhalese]
[5) Army and GOSL did not kill 70,000 tamils]
[6) Army did not kill ACF NGO employees in muttur, Trinco students and several thousands of tamils and sinhalese]
[7) Army and GOSL have not involved in disappearences in sl]
[8) Army and GOSL is not involved in any rapings]
[9) Army and GOSL did not involve in the bus bombings in Kepittikollawa
[10) Army and GOSL says sinhalese are not modayas and they have comonsense]
When all these are true I don't doubt your beleive in Defence.lk.

Che,
DefenceNet is crap. Even defence.lk admitted more than 30 killed and 84 suffered injuries..
Looks like LTTE estimation is not that wrong. I will say more than 100 soldiers killed. I think defence authorities must not lie and learn to tell truth to the people. Sri Lanka is another Pakistan. |

The Sri Lanka Army's advance towards Kilali and Muhamalai LTTE FDL (originally 2nd FDL) managed in the capture of the LTTE's 1st FDL but were surprised by a heavy volume of artillery and mortar attacks launched by Tigers from LTTE areas.
LTTE artillery and mortar located between EP and Ponaryn were holding back SLA advance for long time. SLA knew all these facts. If this news item is correct, how SLA make such a mistake again?
somthing suspicious, did they use artillery and mortar
for 10 hours? If not, only 16 LTTE fighters dead?

I think SLDF should try to land on mullian with full force.
All the Attack planes, Hinds , should be in standby and hit all artilary positions whereever they are.
Something has to happen to chsnge the trsditional way of SLDF offensives.
Even though it is very had for the SLDF, it will a utter chaos for the LTTE as well. LTTE will feel the threat of boxed, might retreat to Pooneryn or get killed or surender to army.
At the same time, ARMY should be marched fast towards EP. Faster the offensive, casuality will be higher at the begining but much more gain can be achieved in shorter period.
If 3 forces are really cordinated properly, anything can be achieved
