This is what the BBC has to say about the casualty figures given by the Govt and the LTTE
If you add up all the figures given by the government from the beginning of the separatist war until now, it would have wiped out the population of the north twice over,' says Iqbal Athas, consultant editor and defence correspondent of the Colombo Sunday Times and correspondent for Jane's Defence Weekly.
'Similarly if one were to adopt the figures put out by the Tamil Tiger rebels, that would have depleted the ranks of the military considerably.'

That is not true. Nadesan did offer a ceasefire about a month ago which the Government did not accept. The Government CANNOT accept because of the extremist elements in it. The only hope is that the relatively decent guys in the Government like Karu Jayasuriya and D.M. Jayaratne will revolt.

Are you sure there was a ceasfire offer from Nadesan? He may have dropped a hint( a probe maybe) in the middle of a meeting with TNA or a journalist. But I dont think he OFFERED anything as such to the Govt.
I could be wrong, but thats what I remember like.

Hi Gonix / Berty
I allowed myself only 3 posts today in the morning-just to join the welcome party for CHENNAI and join the Econo-Comix debate & used up all 3 self allowed posts. :(: (
Since so many things have happened during the day I d combine all my err.. thoughts into one post.
SLA utterly routed-150 killed -200MIA -300 GIYA etc. etc. the entire SLA armor disabled VS LTTE casualties .err not known yet etc.etc.
Poor southern village boys dying while the affluent northern urbanites are sunbathing sipping lemonade in hammocks! (Tom & Jerry)
So that s that!- GOSL lost the war & Eelaam is round the corner.:( :(-61516

Wow! If SL is doing/ has done all that- its almost a compliment by you-as SL has then has learned all the tricks of International Relations!
