The errant rice traders were nabbed in all parts of the country in raids conducted during the past three days.
Eighty price control inspectors were involved in the raids with the assistance of area police, Marzook said.
The Consumers Affairs Authority had received complaints against rice mill owners who are said to be hoarding large stocks thus creating an artificial shortage of rice, he said.

In the old days when Tamils were free to grow rice and distribute, there was plenty of rice for the whole country.
Now govt is resorting to Sirima-type tactics to control rice...this will bring more disasters just like Sirima did. |

Tell this fairy tell to your God,BR.
Rice traders arrested in Sri Lanka
So called traders are the real thieves. They buy from farmers for very low prices and try to earn twice they spent.
Those must be openly hanged.

Police-Where is SUMA rice?
Owner:we have only SAMBA rice
The mill owners have large stocks, all govt ministers friends/relations, Wholesalers are mostly tamils GOSL giving them a hard time.Get the rice from Mill owners first and give to people, then people can buy cheap rice, if people want to buy expensive rice let them buy.GOSL taxed the importes, now asking SUMA rice
HANDS OFF.

Do they grow paddy in Jaffna? I thought that they mainly grow onions and potato there.
