Mahela s head too big for hat!

Many of us genuinely concerned with the progress of sport have felt that there should have been a change in the cricket captaincy.

When Marvan Atapattu returned after injury why was he not asked to continue as captain? Any other Gentlemanly Cricketer would have done so.

Instead, he was asked to be the water carrier . Despite this insult, Marvan continued silently, until he came to a breaking point. In school cricket, when an injured captain returns, will not he revert to the captaincy?

There were excellent spin bowlers who had to wait in the doldrums. Why? One particular spin bowler was permitted to keep one end of the wicket as his freehold, bowling more than 50 overs, conceding close upon a hundred runs, and capturing one solitary wicket of a tail ender!

There were excellent spin bowlers like Sanath who were kept in cold storage. When everything was lost, he was given just one over, and in the very first ball, he clean bowled the batsman! He too acted in a gentlemanly manner, right throughout.

It is not too late to invite him to handle the affairs of Sri Lanka cricket.

It is a fallacy to appoint cricket coaches from abroad, at stupendous cost. There are in our country quite a member of Level Two coaches with Australian certificates. They have an excellent record as school cricketers. Why not invite them as coach and assistant coach to handle our affairs? Instead, they seek greener pastures abroad.

If Mahela is axed, will he be able to find a place in the team? In a team game, there is no place for selfishness. The welfare of the team is of paramount importance, not one s idiosyncrasies.

I think the Joker and Muppets should be faulted at first before Mahela.

Arjuna will for sure look into the possibility of having Sanath with him, upon retirement.

Local coaches however much they are good enough will not have all the freedom to do a job on his own, this is the major obstacle cost factor comes second.

It is too early to drop Mahela just because he is struggling to find his form in fact of late all our specialist bats are not consistent.......a couple of good scores from the top order would have won us many matches with a solid bowling line up we have right now.

That's because at the time that Marvan returned, Mahela was in fantastic form, and the team was doing very well. Why change a winning combination?

True. But this isnt school cricket, the stakes are much higher. So avoid drawing too many parallels with school cricket.

There were excellent spin bowlers like Sanath who were kept in cold storage. When everything was lost, he was given just one over, and in the very first ball, he clean bowled the batsman!

Not to take any credit away from Sanath, but that first ball wicket was a very lucky one. It was a short ball, which should have been dispatched by the batsman.

Expensive yes. But some of the best coaches in Sri Lankan cricket history have been foreigners - Dav Whatmore, Tom Moody, to name but a few.

If Mahela is axed, will he be able to find a place in the team?

Of course he would! Who else is there to replace him? Tharanga is struggling. Chamara Silva and Dilshan are very inconsistent. Kapugedara is only now starting to find his feet. Mahela continues to be the most experienced batsman in the side, and one bad patch is not, and SHOULD not result in him being dropped.

The only reason we performed badly in West Indies was because the team as a whole did not perform well - and we were definitely disadvantaged in the 2nd ODI. Dont start looking for scapegoats at the first sign of failure - Mahela has proved himself many times over, and like any cricketer, will have bad spells. One weak series does not speak for a career.

Then can we suggest bigger hats for all of them.
