The Department of Elections in Sri Lanka says that the polling cards of the 22,338 eligible postal voters in the Eastern Province will be issued tomorrow. The postal voting in the Eastern provincial council election is to be held on Apr 28 and 29, the sources said.
Ballot papers for the other voters are to be handed over to the postal department on Monday (21) for distribution with the delivery deadline of May 2. The polls are to elect 54 legislators out of the 1,342 nominated from 18 political parties.
Meanwhile, the PAFFEREL, the civic movement against election corruptions, yesterday told that it would deploy 2,500 local monitors and 6 international observers to monitor the election scheduled on May 10. The organization further said, it has already deployed 2 international monitors in the Trincomalee district.
PAFFREL has already taken steps to open four coordinating offices in the East, two in Ampara and one each in Batticaloa and Trincomalee, Deputy Executive Director of PAFFREL, Rohana Hettiarachchi said yesterday.
