People need to stand up and speak out!!
Price hikes after Avurudu
By Malik Gunatilleke

While prices of New Year items have risen to their highest levels and beyond the reach of thousands of people this year, further post-Avurudu shocks are likely with fuel, domestic gas and milk food prices going up. Ceylon Petroleum Corporation Chairman Asantha De Mel said yesterday crude oil prices soared to $111 a barrel this week and the CPC would find it difficult to sell fuel at the current prices.

Mr. De Mel said the revision would be made after the New Year and he feared world prices would go up further in the coming days and weeks. According to the CPC, diesel should be sold at Rs. 91 a litre and kerosene at Rs. 85 if world market prices were applied. The CPC chairman said the CPC was selling petrol at Rs. 117 a litre Rs. 18.50 more than the world market price to subsidise the prices of diesel and kerosene.

Meanwhile, Shell Finance Director Rimoe Saldin said they had sought approval from the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) to revise prices from next month. At present, the cost of a 12.5 kg cylinder of domestic gas is Rs. 1,749 and Shell had asked for a further increase of Rs. 128, he said.

Meanwhile officials of milk food companies also claimed they would have no option but to increase prices soon due to production shortages in various countries. Fonterra Brands Lanka (FBL) Managing Director Achyut Reddy said the current agreement with the government which fixed the maximum price of milk food at Rs. 275 for a 400 gram pack expired on April 30.He indicated that prices would need to be increased by about 20 percent because of increases in world market prices.

Lanka Milk Foods Ltd (LMF) Marketing Director Marketing Lal Sarnapala said there would be no immediate increase in the price of Lakspray as they would not be importing new stocks for some time. He said the company was also concerned that consumption had dropped by 10 to 15 percent in recent weeks due to rising prices.

Countering these claims, Trade Ministry Secretary R.M.K. Ratnayake said that though world prices were increasing most local companies were selling dried milk dust which other countries did not even consume, but instead use fresh milk.

Neurotixin,

Just imagine the Curse of such venerated names draging down the blood torrains of LTTE.

You do not need to imagine. Look at Kali whose vehicle is Tiger. Our project in Northern Sri Lanka is centered around Vairavar Kali temple.

It is more about picking up the 'feeling'. Family feel together

It is hard isn't it? when you have not met Thambi directly and assuming he will FEEL the same as what you feel.
I am not even sure whether your attached to the LTTE at all from your post..I respect your views but I do not agree with others view on You about representing LTTE.

It is not about individual feeling - one to one. It is about feeling through majority Tamils known to me. They clearly respect and value VP. I therefore do not use logic but accept their feelings because we are family. I do that with family members to - i.e. - if I do not know personally - I am driven by majority. Where I know personally - I judge to benefit majority.

Neurotoxin,

Are you ready for Australia baning the LTTE. Having spread all your contact details, what is your strategy ?

Any ban by Australian government is secondary to my own direct feelings about Tigers. The Australian government failed to win my confidence in relation to their judgment in such issues. They lack the wisdom and it is best they do not judge.

How about the Majority Tamils feeling in this forum..what do you think? have you spoken to some in here.

I feel our People (Majority of Tamils) want PEACE, They want to live happily in the north, Have a Vision for their family, They do not want to live thinking there is No tomorrow!!
Do you think majority of Tamils want to fight instead of going for a Peaceful solution?..let it be eelam or anything..

Hitler & Rohana W also had huge following.

Both of them had an innocent smile & mild manners.

But behind those there resided a monster, that is very dangerous to mankind. The immense suffering those people caused is mainly due to that fact they could fool many decent people.

In this forum majority express thinking and not feelings. Hence I do not use majority rule but rather individual logic and justice.

This applies equally to the Sinhalese and any other group.

Do you think majority of Tamils want to fight instead of going for a Peaceful solution?..let it be eelam or anything..

NO. Majority seek peace. Majority do not 'see' peace. The minority who do have to work harder to bring them under one influence. Such peace must come with dignity and it will only when we make it ourselves.

There are monsters behind most of our official leaders. They surface when it is advantageous to do so. Unless majority force identified with Hitler / Rohana, they would not have lasted. Given that they did - I conclude that majority force was with them - often for material purposes - just like the reluctant armed forces in Jaffna.
