Sri Lanka Muslim Congress Leader Rauf Hakeem was not entitled to the security provided to a Member of Parliament after his resignation, the Attorney General submitted to the Supreme Court yesterday.
Senior State Counsel K.A.P. Ranasinghe on behalf of the Attorney General submitted that since the petitioner had resigned from Parliament, he would not be entitled to the security as agreed by the respondents when he was a Member of Parliament.
SSC Ranasinghe further submitted that the petitioner would be entitled to the security provided to contestants at the Provincial Council elections.
Earlier, in a fundamental rights application filed by Rauf Hakeem, respondents agreed to provide Hakeem with two back up vehicles and eight security personnel.
President s Counsel Romesh de Silva PC, Counsel for Hakeem submitted that he had not received a copy of a motion and that the petitioner should have been notified about it.
He submitted that although the petitioner was not a Member of Parliament he would be leading the election campaign for the provincial council elections in the East and needed the security provided to a party leader.
The Bench comprised Chief Justice Sarath N. Silva PC with Justice Nimal Gamini Amaratunga and Justice Jagath Balapatabendi.
Petitioner Hakeem earlier complained to the court that his rights had been violated by the withdrawal of his security.
President s Counsel Romesh de Silva with Nizam Karippar instructed by G.G. Arulpragasam appeared for the petitioner.
Senior State Counsel K.A.P. Ranasinghe appeared for the Attorney General and the IGP.

| This case we have to see as a special case. Hakeem has this threat not because of he being an MP but as a leader of the Muslim Congress. Therefore we must provide him adequate security until he holds this position. |

Saliya! I do not agree with you. Court is a place for justice of low, not the justice of truth. That is why lot of civilians are in prison for very minor offenses and most of underworld thugs are free in the society.
Mr. Hakeem should foresee consequences before leaving his seat. Because if government provide him special security, one can argue JVP leaders also must provide with the same security. |

We all know where this is going. This war is the BEST cover for rajaPASSA SWINE family to get rid of anyone and everyone who opposes them. One by one - maheshwaran, Sripathi, Riviraj adn the other TNA MP. no one knows whose killing these people but we all know who benefits from the death - MR and the LTTE.
Already the stage has been set to take out anyone against MR. Hakeems security has been taken away. The highly accomplished STF commander Nimal lewke has been replaced with yes men in the police. Pillayan armed to the teeth.
There is hardly any difference between the two Murderous SWINE in the North and the one in the south. |
