Tamils in the south were no threat to the Sinhalese

Same I think, Sinhalese in Jaffna were not a threat to Tamils, even at one point LTTE ordered them to lave the area within very short time. I cant remember when but that was the case.

While telling that, I dont want to white wash whats going on south.

Pharoah,

do you think people in Batti need time to think about what they really want for a long term political solution, compared to other parts of Norheast?

No pharoah, Batticaloa people are more feelers whilst Jaffna people are more thinkers. They have to act spontaneously and those in higher positions, including international leaders need to work out the system that fits this reality and bring Batticaloa within international governance. It's a bottom up approach. Jaffna can take Top down approach - so long as the top is Tamil and/or International.

also LTTE should not attack TMVP offices there or their political activities, i think TMVP will self destruct if there is no opposition to the movement from LTTE side.

I am not an expert in armed combat. It is my feeling that TMVP is taking LTTE's place in Batticaloa. If therefore TMVP is right for the government - then LTTE is right in the North for the same government.

They were not a threat to Tamils and Tamils dint ask them to leave either. They left because they had the means and dint want the risk if it could be avoided.

Some stayed back: GOSL and SLA tried to use them as moles and this created a threat to LTTE.

Once again I pose the same question: what has this got to do with the civilian population? What GOSL has done and is doing is collective punishment and this is morally wrong and not in the interest of the country or the Sinhala/Tamil population. The more this is done the more polarized the society will be.

Ane, we all believe that the war would be over before new year...But,...
http://www.dailymirror.lk/DM_BLOG/Sections/frmNewsDetailView.aspx?ARTID=10745

But major questions are being asked in defence circles regarding the extension of the term of office of Army Commander Sarath Fonseka. He and other military bosses like the all-powerful, tough-talking Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa had earlier pledged they would win the war before the National New Year.

But now independent analysts and the UNP say people might have cheap words or hollow promises of those defence top brass and government leaders to eat for the Avuruddha with the cost of living soaring and a kavum or kokis likely to cost about Rs. 25 this year and the Trade Minister himself warning the price of bread might soar to a century and rice to the moon.

But on this morning after all the jokes of April Fools Day, one wonders how long they could go on fooling the people most of the time, even if the one-time paradise has now turned into something like a fools paradise.
