Sinhala is an Indo-Aryan language, so says Wikipedia.

An interesting map is also provided.

Now the question is who came to this little island first? Were they the people from about a kilometre away, or were they the people from hundreds of kilometres away?

Che,
Have you got any idea about the population in south India, when Vijaya came to SL, I mean about 2300 or 2400 years ago?
May be Udawatta knows these facts well. He is a history guy..!

Chennaiguy:

From this year onwards , Tamil new year will be celebrated on the 1st of Thai. So i dont think this year tamil new year will be celebrated in April.

Then, there is nothing in common between Tamils and Sinhalese...two distinct nations -- Tamil Eelam for Tamils and Sri Lanka for Sinhalese

A question to ask is how did elephants come to the island. They came through Mannar island which was connected to Tamil Nadu...so, it makes perfect sense that people also came to the island via the same corridor...the people closest to the land corridoor were Tamils... so, Tamils were the 1st to claim the island!

It is very simple.. just drag the FLAG and drop it in the top web addy space and you will get the country's name..lolz..may be you did not even know that..(well can be a April Fools joke)
Hong Kong is called the special administration region under China..It is a 'ONE COUNTRY TWO SYSTEM' concept..I am sure that is something we can look very closely to solve the present problem in SL.

Which is kind funny cus I was in Singapore for a while .

I know it is hard even to OPEN your mouth if You have lived in Singapore..lolz

Must be morning there .

EEE,
came to the island via the same corridor

When there is a corridor, SL was not an island.
Got it..?

This corridor claim is pre-historic era, and looooong before Tamil ethnic group started the civilization.
