When tamils say we can not speak the majority language then the RACISM is obvious.
Does this mean that Sinhalese living in Tamil areas especially in the East - not many of them are courageous enough to live in Jaffna - ought to learn Tamil? It would be good to learn the language of majority in our physical environment, so we would be functional. Whether that ought to be enforced in a land that we are born in - is another question. What is natural to one ought not be enforced through majority force on another who does not feel part of the group.
Actually, if tamils lived for a longer period of time, by now every tamil should talk sinhala.
What about Sinhalese speaking Tamil - so they become more global?

Under normal conditions when tamils migrate they should leqarn the majority language. that can be understood easily.
Again, you are back to square one. The pretext of any skilled migration is to know at least one of the official languages. Neither Tamils nor Sinhalese migrated to Sri Lanka through point system. They used boat system. :)

I, for one, had lived in colombo and was learning Sinhalese at a very young age, knowing full well that I needed it. If not for you guys chased me away in 1983, I might be conversing with you in Sinhala in another forum. :O))

This is warped thinking. You learn a second language either out of necessity or interest. Not because you live next door.

The racist who argues with you tries to rewrite thwe history and claim that Tamils are immigrants in Sri Lanka too as in other countries.
Tamils migrated all over the world and accepted the system of the majority and live well.
Tamils settled in Sri Lanka before the illegal immigrants Vijaya and his 700 accomplices set foot in the island.
Tamils lived only 18 miles away and were seafarers. Even the British came to use the word 'catamaran' ' which is a Tamil word to refer to raft or raft of two boats. Sinhalese calim they landed first and the Tamils waited until these rebels (701) sailed from Bengale or Orisa which 2,500 miles away.
In Oz, USA, Canada and most of South American countries this argument of who came first is irrelevant as those who went there 550 years ago are the rulers.
What Tamils want is not Sinhala Only Act but equal treatment as any other community which is granted in many civilised countries. Sinhala Onlt Act treats those who speak Sinhala as the superior race.

I want to remind the members what canine qualities both CBK and Ranil have.
During presidential election for CBK second term Ranil said that if he became the president he would hand over Chndrika to LTTE which was quite stupid for a candidate.
CBK retaliated that if Ranil did that it would be treason ( which is of course) but she did not mind him handing over his wife to LTTE which was quite unpresidential.
This showed to what low levels both these two politicians could go in to.
When Ranil was a moron to say such a thing , CBK violated the Presidential oath she took to safe guard human rights and especially a women's rights allowing a man to give his wife to LTTE a terrorist organization.
A b.itch and a dog of this caliber are good only for a 'balupootuwa' nothing else.

Well said. It's as if Chinese living in Singapore claim that they came there first, just because they have Chinese Garden and the Malays have no archeological evidence. :P
Malays wouldn't have wanted to live in singapore for obvious reasons. It was a bare land, good for nothing as such compared to Malaysia. Chinese moved in there because of their even worse troubles they had in mainland China. For them Singapore was better.
Now if the Chinese ask 20% Malays living in Singapore to go back to malaysia, how hilarious would that be? :P
