Nice tribute,,btw. I had a very interesting chat with two guys from tamilnadu who came to the bistro, one was from chennai and the other from madras, they are here on a project.

how do you convert youtube videos to imovie? Do you know a freeware for converter?

Gg, there are softwares.
First download the video using www.keepvid.com.
Then convert it using a software like Quicktime with the plugin Perian (http://perian.org)
Then import the converted file into imovie.
You can also use this software to convert your .flv into a .mp4 ..

Madras is the old name, it was renammed Chennai in 1996..

This is the Sri Lankan brand of Buddhism. It's not just Tamils who disappear. After the 2004 tsunami, two Sinhalese children were ADMITTED to Mahamodera Hospital in Galle. They disappeared and have never been found. Nurses at the hospital confirm that they saw them.
The Sinhalese word for kidnapping is 'ussanawa'. One of our neighbours recently had a burglery. The burglars threatened that, unless she handed over her jewellery, ' thoge lamaiwa ussanawa'.

white van abduction is spreding to upcountry, Last month in Monaragala dist there were lots of abductions taken place, In Bandarawala 2 bisuness men, and monaragala 1 tamil bisnuiess man and 5 men are missing. There are lots of young boys have been arrested too in this area, There are wittness saying even they have seen in Badulla.
All estate people over age 10 have been asked to provied phots to the police and with all details in most of the area.
I think there will be more support to tigers in this area after this sort of a treatment bythe govt. |

Buddhism is involved because many so-called devout Buddhists have the attitude, 'It is only Tamils who are disappearing, so I am not bothered'. This is against the great Buddhist teaching which preaches compassion towards ALL sentient beings. Buddhism in Sri Lanka is mostly Buddhism minus compassion.
If you watch the TV news you will see that disappearances are ONLY reported on the MTV/Sirasa group, which is owned by a Tamil. Many people in Sri Lanka adopt the attitude of 'See no evil, hear no evil'. They simply don't want to know about disappearances. So-called Christians in Europe, including the Pope at the time, adopted a similar attitude when Jews were disappearing during the 2nd World War.
Kidnappings occur in many countries, but what is frightening in Sri Lanka is the culture of impunity.

I agree.. They don't care about Tamils dying or being kidnapped, they are Tamils. As long Tamil population is reduced, they are happy .. Silently.
See only our friend GG replied on this thread.. And I'm very proud of her.. Because she is one of the rare persons in LNP who is really Sri Lankan and don't go into racial lines..
It totally prove what you are saying. None will care as long as most of the persons who disappear are Tamils. |
