Moby,
My intention of this reply is not a prolonged argument with you. I just see a genuine doubt in your questions and hence this reply.
if this was teh case, how come you don't see the people from the area joining in droves and droves...? Why is t that the LTTE must ENFORCE or abduct people to join the ranks..? Why do such a noble cause has deserters and those wants to escape?
I know for a fact before Riviresa operation, LTTE was asking from people to send one member from each family. As far as I knew at that time, there were no abductions. The drive wasn't very successful. When the SLA operation began, LTTE fought for a while and retreated into Wanni. They suggested the people to vacate and hence the mass exodus within the peninsula. Not all of them went into Vanni. Many of them returned mainly because of Army bases such as Kilali and Elephant Pass..
During peace time, LTTE again asked people to contribute one from each family. From the Riviresa and Jayasukurui experiences and the response was positive and hence a lot of LTTE recruits. There have been some abductions too, like in the case of Ampara school. The LTTE in charge got punished later and the students were freed. This is a problem of any armed military organization of the size of the LTTE.
If most of the LTTE recruits are forced ones, LTTE now would have been history. Please understand that there have been some genuine issues with the minorities which is the cause for existence of the LTTE.
Why are there more tamils in the SOuth rather then the east and the north? What is he logis in what you said?
Pls tell us
For a typical tamil residing in Jaffna or Batti or Wanni, there would be three choices .
1) Flee the island. (Costs money, not affordable by many.)
2) Join the LTTE (Either by interest or due to lack of any other tangible way of living.)
3) Move to south (Cheap.. possibility to live a bit longer.)
Obviously, there will be a lot who will choose #3, because most of them either would be trying for #1 or have financial support from overseas.

Where do you go?
Let me guess, Colombo and then south. Right?
Try going north.........to see the real suffering.
Yes I know.
I do not think so.

SLA forces civilians to cleanup checkposts, military bases
I suppose LTTE can now use Sinhalese civilians as mine clearing personal. No training necessary just walk across a mine field and no pay will be given if you don't find a mine.
If you find a mine then you will not be needing any money.
This could solve the entire Sinhalese unemployment problem. Edited By - whatreallyhap - 25 Mar 2008 13:48:58 |

Sorry entering in the mid or you guys discussion.
But, above statement is suggesting put civilians to death by make them to walk in mine field to find mines.

Why should we follow US and Indian leaders' advice if it does not suit us? We are an indipendent state...right?
Yes Vismitha,
I agree with you. But, I believe you will agree with me that we had or have very few good leaders. Though some leaders are still praised for their contribution to develop the country, at a point they failed their duty when they become selfish.
for example, father of the Nation - DS Senanayake gave prominent to his son over SWRD and it led to a situation SWRD forming SLFP and to win the election he went one step forward to promise 'Sinhala only'. In fact it was UNP first stated that they will give official language status to Sinhala (which was not wrong if they said to both local languages along with or without English).
After gaining the power SWRD realized his mistake of ignoring Tamil languge, he tried to corrected it, but he failed. The rest you know - .....
