Chinese Exclusion Act (United States)

For all practical purposes, the Exclusion Act, along with the restrictions that followed it, froze the Chinese community in place in 1882, and prevented it from growing and assimilating into U.S. society as European immigrant groups did. However, limited immigration from China did still occur until the repeal of the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1943. From 1910 to 1940, the Angel Island Immigration Station on what is now Angel Island State Park in San Francisco Bay served as the processing center for most of the 56,113 Chinese immigrants who are recorded as immigrating or returning from China upwards of 30% more who showed up were returned to China. Furthermore, after the 1906 San Francisco earthquake, which destroyed City Hall and the Hall of Records, many immigrants (known as 'paper sons') falsely claimed familial ties to resident Chinese-American citizens which could not be disproved.

Later, the Immigration Act of 1924 would restrict immigration even further, excluding all classes of Chinese immigrants and extending restrictions to other Asian immigrant groups. Until these restrictions were relaxed in the middle of the twentieth century, Chinese immigrants were forced to live a life apart, and to build a society in which they could survive on their own.

You can show isolated incidents but I have lived through a period in the South where your own batchmates threatened and looted you. Where you are afraid to speak min Tamil for fear of being labelled a Tiger. Where women were scared to wear Pottu.
I did not have such experience in any western country.
The point I am trying to make is that all these (including the riots) were sponsored by the government. Youcan look for fringe people and punks in other countries who indulge in racism. But in SL it is part of the mainstream.

Show me one guy who was prosecuted for the 58, 77, 83 riots.

War criminals like Janaka P are heroes. There is no rule of law.

You quote world leaders only when they suit u. How many times have you quoted indian & US leaders who have advised you to give rights to tamils ?

Why should we follow US and Indian leaders' advice if it does not suit us? We are an indipendent state...right?

We have strong friends in China, Pakistan, Iran and Russia right?

So...why should we follow leaders who themselves are proven to be unsuccesful.

And guys you are scouring history to justify your racism. You can go back further to the slave trade era and say that SL is better than that:))

In the world wars the western countries used chemical weapons. So can you justify these now?

Act Now to Stop Violence Against Muslims in Vadodara, Gujarat
Action alert
May 03, 2006
The state of Gujarat, India is again experiencing violence directed at the minority Muslim community. The outbreak of violence was started off by the demolition of a 300 year old historical Muslim shrine. The police shooting at the protesters and the subsequent attacks by mobs have led to a death toll of six with many others seriously injured. One man was burned alive by a Hindu extremist mob of 1,500 that had besieged a Muslim neighborhood. Numerous Muslim localities in Vadodara are reported being besieged by violent mobs as we speak.

quite obviously, you are quoting from history, and you are quite old too! :)

now, Sri Lanka is a much changed place...

to quote from the 'horse's mouth' (S C Chandrahasan, son of Samuvel Selvnayagam)...
http://ia.rediff.com/news/2008/mar/24inter.htm
Now that has changed. There is no indiscriminate firing. Also there is a sizable population among the Sinhalese who say 'We must live together'. That is a qualitative change.

at least now, come down to Sri Lanka and spend your remaining few years in reconciliation, appeasement and content!
i invite you to...

give CHANGE a CHANCE!
i.e. of course, if you are not too old to do that!
