Pakistan have appealed to Sri Lanka to step in to the fixture gap left by Australia, who pulled out of their planned tour because of security fears.

Australia were due to tour Pakistan between March 29 and April 29, but postponed it earlier this month following the turmoil sparked by the assassination of former President Benazir Bhutto in December.

Bangladesh have agreed to play earlier in April to accommodate the possible visit of Sri Lanka, who are touring the West Indies until April 15.

Nasim Ashraf, chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said: [The] Sri Lankan Board s president, Arjuna Ranatunga, is coming to Pakistan on Thursday and I hope that he will agree to send his team for a one-day series .

Ashraf added that he has held meetings with Creagh O Conner, the Cricket Australia chairman, in Dubai and hoped that the postponed Australia series will be rescheduled very soon.

Cricket Australia has invited the PCB chairman to visit Australia to fix new dates for the tour.

The PCB remain confident that ICC Champions Trophy, which it is due to host in September, and the Asia Cup in June and July, will go ahead as planned.

Why not? We should play in Pakistan and show us our solidarity on sport field where they helped us out under similar situation few years ago.

This is a good move from SL cricket, becasue it improves the relationship between the two countries and opportunities for new kids.

This is the time for payback.. and show our good will to PCB...

they did a great job and a favor to us in the same way during 1996 WC...... it was the same security issue too..

I think, ICC should move in this regard..... only Aus, Eng, WI, SA, NZ are over-concerned about such security issues... while other countries are ready to play under any condition...

I wonder, those morons came from heaven.... their lives are such more valuable than others !!!
