Arthur C. Clarke, a visionary science fiction writer who won worldwide acclaim with more than 100 books on space, science and the future, died Wednesday in his adopted home of Sri Lanka, an aide said. He was 90. Clarke moved to Sri Lanka in 1956, lured by his interest in marine diving which he said was as close as he could get to the weightless feeling of space.
``I`m perfectly operational underwater,`` he once said.

He was the co-author with Stanley Kubrick of Kubrick`s film ``2001: A Space Odyssey,`` but he was regarded as far more than a science fiction writer.

He was credited with the concept of communications satellites in 1945, decades before they became a reality. Geosynchronous orbits, which keep satellites in a fixed position relative to the ground, are called Clarke orbits.

He joined American broadcaster Walter Cronkite as commentator on the U.S. Apollo moonshots in the late 1960s.

Clarke was born in Minehead, Somerset, England. As a boy, he enjoyed stargazing and reading old American science fiction pulp magazines (many of which made their way to the UK in ships with sailors who read them to pass the time). After secondary school and studying at Huish's Grammar School, Taunton, he was unable to afford a university education and got a job as an auditor in the pensions section of the Board of Education.

During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Air Force as a radar specialist and was involved in the early warning radar defence system which contributed to the RAF's success during the Battle of Britain. Clarke actually spent most of his service time working on Ground Controlled Approach (GCA) radar, as documented in his semi-autobiographical novel Glide Path. Although GCA did not see much practical use in the war, after several more years of development it was vital to the Berlin Airlift of 1948-1949. He was demobilised with the rank of Flight Lieutenant. After the war, he earned a first-class degree in mathematics and physics at King's College London

Many concepts Clark wrote will be proved in future.
Some has already proved before he die, like satellite communications.

Also, he proved Sri Lanka is a nice location to live for any advance person.

Sri Lankans are proud about him, a lot.

Also, he proved Sri Lanka is a nice location to live for any advance person, not to Sri Lankans those who already know that, but to many other people around the world with little or no knowledge of our country.

(I hope Imperator understand now, what I mean).

He brought honor to SL and in fact placed SL on the world map besides its notoriety of abduction, murder, crimes, muzzling of freedom of speech and expression and media and violent oppression of the minorities
