Training youths as nurses to serve in foreign countries is an excellent idea. They will have an opportunity to expose to the world while gaining first class experience in their carrier.
Not only nurses Foreign Employment Bureau must do research on the foreign job market to find out available jobs for Sri Lankans and train them accordingly in English medium. There are lot of jobs out there such as electrical maintenance, plumbing, welding which Sri Lankan youth can be trained easily in short time.

This is the stupidest decision that one could take..
what is the reason for it? think about it..The only reason is cos the Employers ill treat or do not pay wages to these ladies..True, we have a problem..what is the % of women are actually in this category..what about the others who have a decent earning? why stop them too..
Here is what MR should have done.
1) Get the full details of which country has the most # of these cases..? eg:- Let us say Kuwait/Saudi
2)Get the Sri lankan Embassy to do more...have a record/database of all the Helpers who go to Saudi/Kuwait
3)Only allow Employers to Hire SL helpers who will allow the Helpers to contact the Embassy.The Name and full address and the Telphone number of the Employer should be given to the SL embassy.
4)Get these Helpers to call in once in 2 months to say they are doing fine & their wages are paid, Record it. if they do not call, the Embassy should call those girls.
5) Arrange Home Visit by the SL Embassy staff once in 6 month or a year.
6) Do not stop Helpers going to other countries other than Saudi/Kuwait (in Hong Kong SL helpers have a wonderful life and the earn almost Rs 40,000 a month with a room and meals and off days-Sundays/all public holidays. They have medical insurance etc..why stop them from coming to HK)
Until Mahinda and his stupid Government is ready to accommodate these ladies in SL by giving decent job opportunities, He should withdraw this order.
very soon..we will see a Protest! Some body should start a protest letter and get all the families to sign and sent it to the President.
How about we appoint our very own Dr (Mervin) Sinthaka, The Minister of Southern affairs to start this letter.. |

Domestic helper job is not a job to shame.
Its an important working sector in rich world.
What MR must do is first implement a very efficient program to protect our people in ME.
Then gradually, more trained people can be re-placed.
MR must take decisions together with actions.
Results of those actions must be visible, if they not worked well, then GOSL can address the issues. |

Let me give you what happens in my back yard..That is Hong Kong..Pera sir will confirm too
In Hong Kong..Sri lankan helpers enjoy a fantastic life and a good decent earnings..why should anyone stop them from doing that..? I do care for these ladies.. |
