How easy is it for a Sri Lankan to get employment as a nurse in the US, UK, Italy, Australia, NZ etc etc. Could any members residing in those countries please clarify?

I totally agree if the reason is simply based on Social values..I am all for Family values..We also have to think what we got for these Families as an alternative rather than simply halting them from going to other countries..

My point is very simple..is this order by MR is simply a Political talk or is he really going to make a different to these Helpers..

I think you think MR is Genuine but I don't think so..

on the other hand if this ban or order is based on abused helpers, then it is not correct..unless we have figures and the countries of such incidents. we should not take away what helpers have if they are Happy in their jobs.
Hope you get what i mean..

There is a great market here in Aust. But, for that, GOSL must consult Australia and give the training to tally with local standards of Australia.

Salaries are very high and GOSL can give the training with and agreement to re-embers the training cost after they get the job.

But, training must conduct with high level.

I am unable to give an answer to Nurses but i know someone who went to U.S as a Teacher..specially Child care..the Salary she receives is very minimum..enough to survive..say hand to mouth..She clearly told me she is stomaching it cos in a few years she gets to stay permanently in U.S
so the bottom line is she wants to get out of sri lanka..

I agree Tamils Sinhala peoples relationship is fine, I have lot of Sinhala friends too, really good close family friends.

That is not the issue here, racist politics at the establishment level!

Robin,
racist politics

This can be addressed, if Tamils get the 3rd place in political powers. They can give the decision to make the government easily.

Sinhalese are also not smart to organize one good party. UNP and SLFP will remain always I think.

Ur right but Australians/Americans will prefer lighter coloured Asians to Brown ..what i am saying here is they will prefer Filipinos who are Fair & very good in English and mostly university educated girls to SL's. I am not saying sri lankan will not get a chance but what i will confidently say is if there are 100 jobs..may be sri lankans will get 10..
