yes..i did say they have a lovely good decent living in Hong kong compared to ME countries
let me give you a few examples
1)In Hk the Salary..(minimum wage) is SL Rs 40,000 per month. I do not know how much it is paid in ME but i am sure it is much less
2)In Hk the employer has to sign a contract and submit to the Immigartion and get a ID for the helper..in ME, you won't know where is your PP is..
3)in HK the maid has to be provided with a room and all Meals and should be given Sundays off and all Public holidays off but in ME..U know what they get..
4) Yes, there are sheds for mis treated helpers and most of these sheds are full of Philipinos..a very FEW sri lankans..so when i said my wife helps the helpers it is not only sri lankans but any poor female who works as a helper..
5) in HK if the helpers work for more than 3 years for the same employer she gets a long term payment that is 1 month salary for each years service. I don't have to tell you about ME
6)Helpers who want to go to courts for anything against the employer is given a Free stay order until the case is heard..

My wife went to visit those who were in the shed and we spent money on Food and groceries..The only helping hand comes by the way of a christian Church..
Sinhala meaning is in engilsh (anyway, not direct) just below there. Its not a bad word, its just a common slang.

Generally, I always have sympathy for the section under pressure. In SL matter too, we have to go a longer distance for peace than Tamils.
When people are having a problem, they tend to see a narrow path. So, forcing them to follow is not a fair thing. Some mistakes in our recent history is hurting SL now. I wish GOSL will manage to over-come this time.
Unfortunate thing is, LTTE has grown to too big scale. Will see.
And your handle is not bad..!LOL.
I didnt think too much when I select one for me.

thank you for your reply and for the kind words about my wife..
If you come this way please let me know..when you meet us in person you will have a better understanding as to who we are..This is in no way praising my own tail but TRUTH.

If you read this carefully you will see i did not mention Sri lankan Helpers shed..I said shed for the helpers..cos majority are Filipinos. since my wife is a burgher she is very fluent in Sinhalese so she goes to help the sri lankan helpers..(may be a FEW)
anyway..bottom line is we understand what they go through when they are all alone..
It is a Pity in the forum we divide these helpers as Sinhalese/tamils/Muslims..They are all as i always say Humans and sri lankans..like u, me and all others in here

I think you should start reading the full discussion we had for and against this decision from page 4..

I read the same news in LeN y'day...
this is an ultimate stupidity from MR, it's like cutting off the head fearing white hair or dry skin.... instead of keeping an eye on those ill-minded house maid agencies, setting up a policy and rules and regulations regarding salaries and other related issues with foreign countries....etc, he decides to stop sending maids.....
FYI Mr. President.... this is GoSL's major source of income |
