This is my first vote - Pillayan
TMVP leader Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan alias Pillayan who exercised his franchise for the first time in his life yesterday said a new sun would dawn in the East following the election.
Surrounded by bodyguards and police officials, Pillayan arrived in a white van with tinted glass to cast his vote at the polling station at Vipulananda Vidyalaya, Pethalai, Valaichchenai early yesterday.
After exercising his franchise, he told local and foreign reporters that he would give up arms fully as soon as the security situation returned to satisfactory levels.
'After this election, we are planning to establish democracy,' he said.
Responding to queries about his possession of weapons, he said they carried weapons only for self-protection, and were ready to lay them down after the security situation improved satisfactorily.
