The troubled budget airline, Mihin Air which has still not paid the salaries of its employees for February was yesterday scheduled to take delivery of more than 30 container loads of expensive ground handling equipment from Germany.
No money to pay salaries but have money for equipment and that to for a air line that is going to be bankrupt soon.
Was the kick back that good to do this in a hurry?
Like everything with the GOSL. The economy is pinching only those who have to make a honest living the others are well off.

Scarsm apart MR should have started Mhini Airlines as a domestic venture and then gradully expanded with local/foreign expertise.
The Company should have gone on public issue and collected funds.
We do everything the wrong way in Sri Lanka and this is a classic example.
Now you have a hurge administrative setup incurring recurrent expenditure while there are no worthy aircrafts flying. |

| If, eventually, the efficient hands of the government or indeed its lap dogs who successfully run Mihin Air lay their hands on Sri Lankan, I will not fly it anymore. |

Vas Gunawardene has shown himself as 'un-able' and 'un-scrupulous' .. un-suited to run this air-line. (His only qualification appears to be his 'professed' loyalty to the President).
So far we have not had a 'spectacular' happening (air accident), with massive destruction of life .. we should pray it does not happen. It is time the air-line is re- structured with a qualified CEO, and other managerial staff. (It may be time for those who are close to the President, and genuinely concerned with the welfare and progress of the country to rally round, and convince him of the need to take a good, hard-look at the management of Mihin Air .. this needs to be done before Vas goes on to drag the President down with him).

To Sena M:
Yes, or else the government should accept what we have known all along: that it is utterly pathetic and hopeless in running a business. It should also make a commitment never in future to venture into what it cannot even dream of achieving an ounce of success in. Let the airlines and other businesses be run by qualified professionals. The people did not elect the government to run airlines. It tried, and as widely predicted, failed with massive amounts of of public funds gone down the drain. 'Miserable failure' is really an understatement. The ones who gave Mihin air an open cheque book should be brought to book (here's wishful thinking).
