| IPKF was going to finish LTTE off within 72 hours,that was in August?1987 and they did not leave till early 1990.There would have been a few thousand 72 hours in that period of about 3 years.Talk of Rajiv Gandi saving LTTE during operation liberation of 1987 and Premadasa again in 1990 seems a bit naive as Jaffna is under GOSL now as it might have been in 1987 and IPKE wanted 3 days but had near enough 3 years but could not do it even with carpet bombing Vanni jungles.When the locals fear an army reguarless of them being the USA army in Vietnam,Iraq or Afhanistan the Soviets in again in Afhanistan IPKF in North East or the GOSL forces then and now in the North East could not get rid of a group of militants who are of loved ones and friends of the local population,if the people have grivances on top of all and it becomes even more difficult. |
