I wish the old days will come back soon. Growing up down Park Road with the Wettimuny's, the Jayawardenes and the De Silva's...after 1983 moving to Chavakachcheri, and even as late as 1986 playing Gypsies baila in Jaffna at parties.
Working for John Keells and drinking at Galle Face after work with both Tamil and Singhalese friends. Being arrested by the Police and detained at the Dehiwala Police station in 1996. The straw that broke the camel's back. I left with my wife and child leaving my parents and brothers behind with tears. Even now when the plane touches down in Colombo i get a sense of belonging inspite of being terrified of being arrested.
When will we have this again, Or Will we ever?? |

U can control what is within Ur control not beyond
but even Wanni is not within their control,so they have to run 30 feet underground most of the day and night. |

Please do not spoil the moment by taking sides and ridiculing everybody. Fingers are so flexible that they can point in so many directions.
I agree that there is no mistrust between individuals but, politically there is. So lets face it.
Gons, I am glad and by the way I have a burgher sis in law as well...truly multi racial! |

When the LTTE is gone,there wont be a place for destrust.Tamils and Sinhalese have no problem in trusting each other but the LTTE Tamil terrorists brain washed by Prabha Thamby,do.

Keep the faith brother! SriLanka is yours as well as it is mine. And speak out. A lot of people have not been so lucky as you and I have been to have close friends from the other side.

Exactly,this menace is created by those goons and they are on their run.Mislead ones will realise how peacefull the society is once the culprits are gone.
Peace and harmony is already there in the South but LTTE goons trying to create riots for there gain which will never happen.
There is no any mistrust between Tamils and Sinhal ese in the South,they all do their living very well together but some culprits still trying to give the world and the Tamil community a bad picture to mislead them.That is the whole truth.

I think the two gentlemen who spoke to touched on a very basic and also a key issue: Trust.
From 1956 the Sinhales as well as the Tamils saw what the Tamils were loosing but the Sinhalese to a greater proportion failed to see what they were loosing. They lost the trust of the majority of the Tamil population.
Tamils have recovered from the physical hut I am not sure whether they have recovered from the mental loss in faith as there is no trust. It would have helped is the Sinhalese rose-up in solidarity with the suffering Tamil civilians of the N/E but they were indifferent as it was not in their backyard. South might think no one realized this but the N/E made a note of this because if you ask a civilian from N/E they will openly tell you that the rest of the country does not care.
This is where this war cannot be won by the GOSL. To win the war GOSL will have to win the population. To do that It has to offer a reasonable solution and might have to go out of its way to please the population that has seen so much suffering. This wont sit well with the JVP/JHU but if the reason is explained the Sinhala general population will buy it. If GOSL thinks of military victory then there is no solution for this problem. |

Not so fast... Those goons have been around for a generation. There are 25 year old Tamil youth that have not seen or heared anything but the fear of the Army / the K'fir and the Sinhala majority from the south. They are suddenly going to trust a goon from the south with a sheepish grin wearing a red scarf ??

If GOSL is thinking of a millitary victory then there is no solution for this problem
Millitary action is only to defeat terrorists but if there are other issues related to Tamil population,GOSL will solve them democratically with the democratic Tamils.

U are right,the army was brought by LTTE violence there,thats why army is fighting to destroy the violators and rescue the innocent people from fear of life.Then they can travel arround the country and enjoy a peacefull life. |
