The construction of Sri Lanka s tallest building, the Diamond Tower will commence in May with an investment of US $ 150 million.

This BOI approved project is to be completed in May 2011. Promoted by Larsen and Toubro Limited (L&T) India s largest engineering conglomerate, will reach a height of 246 meters and comprise 59 floors over an area of 1.5 million square feet.

The tower township, the first of its kind, will feature 177 luxury residential apartments on 19 floors, including six penthouses and 128 serviced apartments on eight floors in addition to 10 floors of high end commercial space.

It will also include special amenities for residential, serviced apartments and commercial offices with nine floors for vehicle parking. Once completed the Diamond Tower will be the only multi-storeyed tower in the country with residential apartments, serviced apartments and commercial space in one building.

The project will proceed as a public private partnership between L&T and National Housing Development Authority (NHDA).

A big 'thank you' to India, whom now control over 50% properties in Colombo, including over 100 petrol stations.

No point in doing such buildings if the infrastructure is so poor or non existent i.e proper sewers so that water can run off instead of flooding the road with excrement.

Damed, Blackey 100% agree.

It will be a huge investment taking up money that could be used for infrastructure building, at the same time, it would also be Sri Lanka's biggest target.

This kind of money is coming from India. It is not government money or Slankan money. We should not count teeth in gift horses.

1) If this fails, will it going to be fall in to the NHDA lap?
2) If this is a story of success, then will it be totally L&T?

NHDA has rightly settled for L&T, one of the best in the construction business.

It will located at Darley Road, overseeing the beira lake!
