By the time oil start to gush from Mannar, Mannar won't be a part of Lanka, Why all this fuss?
Is Mahindha thinking of importing oil from a neighbouring country to cut transport cost.

the US Ambassador in SL does not believe you
The US Ambassodor in SL is not the USA in case you thought so!
An Ambassodor may represent the United States but when it comes to oil there are other more noteworthy US State and corporate figures who would be conspicuous and they don't seem interested at all, not even in the oil tanks lying at China Bay, may be because even they do not have oil in them!

Sure .. He is not USA. Indeed, how can he be that vast Nation ? But he is the representative of that Country, in Sri Lanka.
He has also many people working for him (available to him for consultation) .. in SL, as well as in the US. As a responsible person, he will consult with his 'experts' .. before venturing forth to invite US Oil Company representatives to take a 'close' look at the opportunities available to them, in exploration for oil & gas, off-shore Sri Lanka.
Since you've thought it fit to question the US amabassador's competence to speak on this subject .. may I ask: Whom do you represent ? And what is your competence on this subject ?
(I know the next question, you are going to ask me .. What knowledge have I .. on this subject of Oil & Gas Off-shore Sri Lanka ? OK .. I am no expert .. however, I have been in engineering (aero), all my life. I have spent some time studying this subject .. off-shore oil & gas .. and I am speaking/writing from the strength of my convictions).

| It is because of this misplaced confidence that he spend, spend and spend on weapons and determined on this destructive war to pay later with the oil-mirage. |

SenaM,
One need not be a Geologist specialised in Mineral Oil exploration to realise that this 'Oil in Mannar' talk is just a fairy story surfacing now and then.
You have mentioned that you have nothing to do in geology and mineral oil exploration, neither do I! You for what ever reasons base your views and come to a conclusion saying there is oil. I come to my conclusion that there is no oil, as Pundits in the Field of Oil, having much more competencies than you or me, have been saying there is oil for donkeys years and if I am correct some projects too had been implemented in the 60's and 70's specially under Mrs.Sirima Bandaranayaka exploring for oil, but those projects simply had ended in a wastage of time and resources and the Pundits were made to eat their own words. Hope it does not happen to you too.
Well, 'IF' oil is found, that indeed would be fantastic for Sri Lanka's economy BUT with all the corruption in the country would the country actually benefit or would it be another case such as Nigeria?

Nigeria is not a 'fit' comparison for Sri Lanka. (Those who try to make the case .. that SL will revert to a similar situation as in Nigeria are simple 'nay' sayers, driven by political or racist concerns).
A better comparison is with neighbouring India .. finding oil & gas will be a 'blessing' to Sri Lanka (as it was to India). |

If that were to be true, Slanka will have to become the 25th state of India. Then it will work. Slankan leaders who are capable of running efficent administrations don't get elected. Those who talk through their back sides and give false promises win. Then oil will be a curse. |
