daily mirror editorial
for forth coming play down
According to independent defence analysts fierce battles are continuing in the Kilinochchi and Mullaitive areas with hundreds being killed or injured on both sides. The analysts say the coming weeks or months of 2009 could be the decisive phase of Eelam war-4. They believe the LTTE is now throwing its hardcore, highly trained and heavily equipped units into the battle, and what would happen in the coming weeks is uncertain with the crisis of conflict within conflict and contradiction within contradiction continuing.
Last Monday the Chief of Defence Staff claimed that the fighting units of the LTTE had been reduced to less than 2000. Air Vice Marshal Donald Perera also charged that the LTTE was forcibly recruiting displaced people, including children elderly men and women for the military battles. Independent military analysts quoted some Army intelligence sources as saying they believe the Tigers still have between 10000 and 12,000 cadres ready for battle. Government and military leaders earlier proclaimed that Kilinochchi -- the defacto administrative capital of LTTE would be captured by August- before the elections to the North Central and the Eastern Provincial Council. Yet it has largely been a case of going and going to Kilinochchi but still not gone. The August deadline for the liberation or triumph in Kilinochchi became October, then December and now 2009, with opposition leaders raising questions as to whether there will be a when, and what will happen eventually. Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe charged on Sunday that the lives of many troops could have been saved if there had been more aircraft to fly the injured soldiers to hospitals. He claimed that, despite requests from Air Force commanders the government had not released money for the repair of troop transport aircraft though it had allocated a thumping Rs. 6000 million to send a dead duck like Mihin air back into the sky. Mr. Wickremasinghe also charged that, while Rs. 5,500 million had been allocated for the Army, Rs. 6000 million had been allocated to resurrect the bankrupt airline for the personal gain or glory of the ruling troika.
Reports from the Media Centre for National Security are not taken too seriously by discerning people, though the MCNS and other state properganda organs have succeeded in whipping up a war mentality or hysteria even in religious places. With conflicting reports leaving many people puzzled as to where we are going and what lies ahead, the main news reports last week were on the controversy and crisis over the price of petrol.

Sinhhalese govts always choose the power or / and money hungry from Tamils and Muslims.
Varatharaja Perumal was chosen and following his NE PC election victory became the Chief Minister of Northeast PC. But because he had no power or money to carry out development projects he declared UDI of Eelam. An arrest warrent was issed on him in 1989.
Pillaiyan was chosen in 2007/08 to head the powerless and bankrupted EPC, he and his deputy Hizbullah declared no power even to appoint an offial to the Eastern PC.
Karuna was made an MP after his realease from the London prison and he was set against Pillaiyan to marginalise the latter's demands.
EPDP leader Devananda is made a minister and asked to annihilate Tamil youths in Jaffna with full impunity given to the killers.
Anantha Sangaree was promised N PC if he could win the election over there whenever held. He found out EPDP cadres carry guns openly, abduct Tamil youths and kill them at whim.
Pillaiyan, Karuna, Devanda are all killers, but, Anantha Sangaree is a failed and humiliated dishonest politician. |

No matter what.
all war credits must goes to LTTE.
within last 20 years, they were able furnish them with what ever and able to stand against an army of nearly 300,000 !
To stand against / fight / over running camps and holding territory & running their own administration which is a unique nature for this surface of current world & further ... all by just group of boys with their own ability with local talents are definitely an admirable achievement.
It is sad that their aim is yet to be recognized by important units of the world.
Hope 2009 collectively good for all affected by the ongoing crisis in SL and other part of the world.
Wish you all the very best for 2009. |
