From Bibile with Love

Wednesday, 24 December 2008 - 9:59 AM SL Time

I am sure some LNP members well deserve it. They can consider the photos, the latest (taken last week) as their Christmas present this year. You have done a great job. Specially Laith ayya and Mr Brown with the able assistance of Ekanayake. The construction of the house is complete (at a cost of Rs. 550,000) and all it needs is painting. I am told that will be done soon, hopefully in January next year, when the blind lady`s family moves in.

However guys, Shakti being Shakti always like to paint the true picture in spite of making you happy by window dressing.

Yes, we have built a house for the poor family but that does not mean we have solved all their problems.

The blind lady remains blind. In spite of whatever discussed in LNP no doctor has seen ever her. (She refuses to visit a hospital I will request Ekanayake to persuade her) She still does not have any means of income. (But two children of hers now attend school, which is good news) Her children still wear dirty and old clothes.

The road that leads to her house remains in pathetic conditions. Her neighbours remain as poor as her. These are issues we can hardly do anything about. But a flavor of reality does no harm.

Another problem is she vehemently refuses to be a part of the
society. Probably because with her past unpleasant interactions with the society. Because of this she does not have an ID card and not receiving any welfare benefits like Samurdhi.

Guys, you have done a great job. But do not leave it half done. These are all I request. It would not be difficult if we all get together to do it. (Apart from Ekanayake, I have many others at that end who are willing to assist)

1. A doctor, please help her. If any eye-specialist wishes to visit there I am glad to arrange the transport and accommodation on my own with one night stay at Bibile town. I might even accompany depending upon my schedule.

2. We need to bring her to society. I will try to find a way to get her an ID and Samurdhi. Please let me know if anyone can pull few strings better. (I do not want to go after politicians)

3. If we can find few foster parents for her four kids, that will be great. This is only till they finish their education. A payment of US$ 30 per month would suffice.

Okay, that`s all for the moment. We have taken the first steps, but don`t stop. Let us get together to make this difference.

Shakti,

Wish you and your family a Merry Christmas..

This post couldn't have come at a better time than Christmas.
My wife and I are keen to be the sponsor parents for 2 kids.
Can you please send me an e-mail on strongscotch at yahoo dot com?

We can also give some money for clothes?

Thanks Berty anna,

I can manage this but I prefer Mr Brown and Lalith to have a centralised program like last time. They were the pioneers, not me. I was more an observer. Let us wait till their views.

I am also told some LNP members plans to visit there soon. We can ask them too. I too need to send some clothes etc.

I also started a DVD/CD library at the school Ekanayake teaches. (about 10 km from this place) If anybody go there take some DVD/CDs with you. Should be suitable for children.

Shakti

I think LNP has done their part as to building the House and if LNP wants to come together may be we can look at the road etc.

My wife & I want to really do this for 2 kids..
U don't have to hurry or take a decision now but please keep us in mind and let us know whatever decision you take.

Shakti bro..if you can put a budget that we need for the clothing for the family..it will be great

It is great of you to have started something in that region
God will bless you

keep in touch

Shakthi,

I am sorry I cannot grasp anything now as I am exhausted driving 3 hours in a minor snow storm. I am going to hit the sheets early as I have another busy day tomorrow. Please check this post day after tomorrow and I will definitely reply. Sorry about this.

If you can persuade the blind lady, there is a school in Ratmalana for the deaf and blind where they learn trades. I think I was talking to one of the ladies here on LNP about it. I can't remember which one. Anyway guys, there's more info on this website:
