Sri Lankan woman held
Chennai (PTI): A Sri Lankan woman has been arrested at the Chennai airport for allegedly smuggling gold worth Rs 13 lakhs.
According to a release from Dr D K Srinivas, Additional Commissioner of Customs, Airport, the officials searched the 44 year-old woman on suspicion on Friday and found out that she had worn undeclared 'crude' gold chain and bangles, and concealed some gold underneath her sleeves.
The total value of the 923 gm of 24 carat gold was Rs 13.04 lakhs in the international market, the release said, adding that the woman had admitted to the crime.
This was second such instance in the last one month when a Sri Lankan national was arrested for similar charges at the airport here, the release said adding a total of 2083 gm of gold worth Rs 28.42 lakhs in the international market had been recovered in the two cases. |

Sea tigers failed most of their missions lately. The sinking of the LTTE vessel is a major blow.LTTE did not acknowledge any of the vessels they lost in 2007. After immence presure from relatives LTTE acknowledge the loss of atleast 3 ships. A record for any Navy in the world, SLN gave a lethal punch to the LTTE in those operations. Otherwise LTTE would have been in a better position to counter SLA advances in Wanni.

TMVP splits -- Karuna forms new party

The Tamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal (TMVP) yesterday split as Karuna Amman formed a new political party called the Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Kooddani (TMVK).
When contacted, the Secretary of the TMVP Thaileshwara Raja said we are aware that Karuna Amman had formed a new political party, but the TMVP will remain unchanged and Pilleyan will take over the leadership in the party . The new party s official address has been given in a location in the Thenagam area in Batticaloa.
Karuna had informed his followers in Batticaloa about his new move and the first letter has been sent to the Eastern Provincial Council member Pradeep Master yesterday.
The letter has been signed by the new party s media spokesman Kanchchana Moorthi Kamalanadan. The letter says that the president of the TMVK is Karuna Amman, the secretary Vinaya Bharathi, and Treasurer Sinna Thammbi. Meanwhile, the word Pulikal (Tiger) in the TMVP title has been replaced with Kooddani (Alliance) in the new party s name.
Many internal conflicts flared after Karuna tried to capture power in the party as his leadership post did not give him enough powers to function. Meanwhile, the Pilleyan faction did not accept Karuna as its sole leader and identified its president as Kumara swami Nandagopan alias Ragu. The TMVP has been registered under his name when Karuna was in prison, and he was referred to in the party constitution as being only a leader who did not have any authority in the party. After the death of Ragu, Karuna had claimed the post of party president but the Pilleyan faction rejected his request this could have led to Karuna forming a new party, a Pilleyan faction spokesman said.

Peelam dogs you must be very sadden now. Peelam dogs have fed these two dogs and in particularly the pillaian child soldier, now they are fighting each other... this will happen when they don't have a proper education. The same will happen to VP fat dog too. |

A unit, which the LTTE had created for an offensive in the north, Yarl Chellum Padai, Malathi 'Regiment,' a unit created in the name of a female guerrilla leader and the Sea Tigers, were deployed to stop the advance of troops in this sector. However, troops here moved forward some 500 metres on a flank extending nearly a kilometre from their positions in the north to south. |

Congress workers stage protest in Coimbatore
Coimbatore: Miscreants riding two-wheelers hurled stones at the SriLankan Airlines office on LIC Road in ATT Colony here, damaging glass panes on Friday night.
Following a complaint, the Race Course Police registered a case.
On Saturday morning, Congress activists staged a blockade on Avanashi Road at Uppilipalayam condemning the pro-LTTE speeches by director Seeman and Periyar Dravidar Kazhagam (PDK) leader Kolathur Mani. They also objected to certain remarks made against former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
The activists demanded the arrest of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) leader Thol Thirumavalavan for his continuing support to the LTTE.
Another group of Congress activists staged a road blockade at the Sungam Junction in Ramanathapuram in the evening.
In Salem, a bus was damaged when Congressmen pelted it with stones while staging a road blockade against the attack on Satyamoorthi Bhavan in Chennai. Window panes of the bus were broken. Nearly 50 Congress workers were arrested.
A group of Congressmen led by town president Panneerselvam, resorted to road blockade near the Collectorate.

The herd has been brought to the right spot and the slaughter has begun. With the lack of money to purchase arms Mr.MR and his golaya Fonseka has ordered sticks and stones to fight LTTE. Dutagemunu's victory cannot be repeated this time.
Well done Sarath Fonseka, the most brilliant soldier of all times. This idiot does not have the basic education so that he can read in English to understand war.
With 3000 freedom fighters VP is going to reverse the whole process.
I hope MR and SF has arranged their flights out of Sri Lanka. |
