Tigers' plot to deny state income - PM

Prime Minister Rathnasiri Wickremanayake has alleged a conspiracy by Tigers to deny the state its income, adding that taxes are being imposed to fund the war towards the elimination of terrorism and restoration of peace.
At a time when heroic soldiers have committed their lives to wipe out terrorism, all should be a strength them and no one has the right to prevent their effort, he told a Year Five scholarship awards ceremony yesterday (Dec. 18th).
Mr. Wickremanayake was commenting on the Supreme Court ruling for the reduction of petrol price to Rs. 100.
The event at the Defence Ministry, Colombo saw children of soldiers and police receive scholarships, in the presence of Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, Chief of Defence Staff Air Chief Marshal Donald Perera and commanders of the three armed forces.
Speaking further, the PM said, 'We should strengthen the hands of the three armed forces. Funds are needed for the country's development as well as for saving it from terrorism. As a government, we find that money through the imposition of taxes. Any one who loves this country and wants the elimination of terrorism has no right to disrupt the earning of money through the taxes.'
