Cyclonic wind damages 75 Moratuwa and Panadura houses in Sri Lanka

Nearly 75 houses have been damaged due to the cyclonic wind that blew across the Moratuwa and Panadura areas this evening.

Keerthi Ekanayaka, the Coordinator of the Disaster Management Center said that a large number of houses were severely damaged while the roofs of few others were slightly damaged.

According to the Disaster Management Center there were no injuries reported from the gusting wind.

Sounds more like a tornado than a cyclone.
There were some reports of a similar incident a couple of years back in the same region.

More bad whether is on the way not just in Sri Lanka but else where. The reason according to major whether burues is 'Global Warming'. Come 2011 global warming will be visible to Sri Lankans too.

first lets hope the GOSL clears out those houses/huts built close to the sea along the Panadura-Moratuwa Highway.... not only it is a threat to the residents but also it is a disturbance for the drivers along that route one small cyclone and those house will be gone along with their residents.. I wonder why the GOSL cannot evict them.. knowing that the GOSL has given them apartments in bit away from the sea these things they should look about at..
