The Ceylon Petroleum Corporation yesterday assured the public that there was no shortage of petrol or petroleum products in the country and there was no need to panic over rumours.
CPC Bulk Supply and Bulk Movement Manager R. Marasinghe told The Island that CPC has sufficient stocks of petrol in the stores enough for another month.
He said that apart from the remaining large stock, a ship was on the way carrying another 15,000 tons of petroleum products. Marasinghe also said that there aren t any complaints of shortages or request for fresh stocks of petroleum from filling stations.
He said that their only worry was how to clear such a large stock.
CPC Marketing sources also agreed that there was no shortage of petrol.
A spokesman from the Marketing Division said that they were in touch with all Area Managers and there were no complaints made on the shortage of petrol.
However, he said that some dealers had cancelled their orders fearing newspaper reports that there could be a further price reduction due to the impending Supreme Court decision on the price of a litre of petrol. By not placing orders for fresh stocks some filling stations may have run short of petrol, he said.
Meanwhile, some filling station managers said that they were waiting till the prices stabilize to place fresh orders since a further price reduction could result in losses for them. A Manger of a Colombo filling station said, `We have stopped purchasing petrol till the prices come down. If we continue with the purchase, we could lose on the deal.`

Tell your governement there are dozens of tankers loaded with oil floating in the Rotterdam harbour.
They have not got a clue what to do with it, because Shell closed the refinery temperarely.
They might be able to get their hands on it for 10 dollars a barrel.
And ... that's a far better deal than hedging at $ 140. |

Govt was Cheering & applauding the Supreme Court, and hiding behind its rulings when it suited them Viz: De merger of North & East which was done by JRJ on a Presidential decree, getting the striking teachers to correct answer scripts etc.
Govt was also happy when Hedging deal was suspended saving over USD 400 Million to the Govt which apparently can fund the War in the North for 6 months. Despite that JHU & Govt has started branding CJ also as a Tiger .
Is the Hedging deal still in force? As Supreme Court ruling on Petrol at Rs.100/= is an extension of the same ruling which suspended the Hedging deal! |

We know that you have stock purchased @ $ 140+ .
Please cancel the Dealer/Distributor License of pumping stations without petrol now & not ordering today due to price reduction anticipating a loss. In SL Consumer not the King. Only the Trader & Govt. Rulers are the..... |
