The most decisive battle for Paranthan and Kilinochchi has now commenced. Around 5.30am today, the 57 and 58 Divisions launched a simultaneous attack on the `L` shaped LTTE bund surrounding Paranthan and Pooneryn.
These were some of the fiercest fights in recent times. While the attack on Paranthan and Kilinochchi continued, the 53 Division made an abortive bid to advance in Kilali but lost around 30 men with 10 bodies falling into the hands of the LTTE.
Close to 100 soldiers were killed and 300 others were injured in all three operations. 12 bodies were captured by LTTE in Kilinochchi (MIA). Many of the injuries to the Army were in the p3 category. The LTTE also lost around 150 cadres. Troops are now in control of the LTTE bunkerline and bund at many locations.
LTTE launched wave after wave of attacks using MPMGs and even 23mm and 30mm HMGs but the troops remained unmoved and have not let go of the bund. The 57 Division took the brunt of the LTTE counter attacks facing 11 attacks so far. Troops from SR, CLI, GW and GR fought valiantly.
The Army altogether lost 42 bodies, which were declared MIA. Some of these bodies, including those of the LTTE can be observed just ahead of the captured areas. Fighting will resume again with the first light.

When that happens no compensation is paid to the families as the victims are considered MIA and not dead.
What baffles me is how the tigers STILL manage to fight our forces with a small cottery of men, women and children who are supposedly dying by the hundreds every day and are supposedly sorrounded on all sides with no supply of arms, ammunition food or medicine?!

| This looks like and sounds like 'L' shaped attack just like a Lerner driver in a car with L plates crashing into all the cars on the road and not familiar with the brakes. The commanders in a rush to become famous are sending our troops into a blind alley they have to stop and start thinking before thousands of young men and women are killed for nothing this war can be won with minimum casualties. |

The bloodiest and end phase of war in progress.
Probably the Indian deadline of 31st Dec to end the war is true. |

| Still beats why Sri Lanka doesn't recruit Tamils to fight the LTTE? After all the government claims a majority of the Tamils live in their areas. Don't they trust the Tamils? |

Hey tn tamil, must the gosl tell you who they recruit?
How do you know that there isnt Tamils in SLDF???
did you red such a punnakku in tamiLIEnet???
And TkT '(Tamils kill Tamils) is the biggest danger for tamils in SL, so that such things are 'top secrets' otherwise taml terrorist would hak whole the family to death.
TkT=Ltte

Airforce is burning the whole Wanni jungle and roasting LTTE inside their own camps....
No records about that dozen of deaths....
Abandoned schools and houses are full with LTTE casualties but no treatments, no doctors, no medicine.
They can't hold the bunker line another week even. |

Most probably the last such fight
Consider the lives that are lost and the once still to be lost in the foreseeable future very aptly written instead beating the victory drums far removed from the reality of war living in somewhere away from Sri Lanka. I remember President Bush declaring the war in Iraq is won on a flight deck with a victory banner hung over the top.As the old saying goes fools rush in ware the wise ******* |
