Kural,
What do you mean by 'we give free education' ? Who is the 'we' ?
Its not free, everyone pay taxes, isn't it ? Nothing is free !
Nothing is for free, but it's called 'free education', because we don't have to pay out of pocket for it... |

Jack,
Microsoft Windows V1.0 (the actual name) was released in late 1985, and was the first graphical interface OS available to the public. This is the first OS with graphical interface.
Technically, Xerox was the first Graphical User Interface, but really, a GUI is NOT an operating system. |

Towards a nation of maths-haters and ignoramuses The essence of mathematics is not to make simple things complicated, but to make complicated things simple S. Gudder
Our education pundits seem to be oblivious to this simple truth. Instead of preparing children to make complicated things in life simple with the wonderful tool called mathematics, teachers have turned it into a fearful monster of sorts, the mere mention of which is enough to make many a child shiver and hide under his or her desk. Therefore mathematics, which Einstein extolled as the poetry of logical ideas, has unfortunately become one of the most hated subjects in schools.
The failure rate in the GCE (O/L) mathematics is shocking. It stands at 57 per cent, second only to the failure rate in English 63.18 per cent. About 52 per cent of candidates crash in science year in year out. Over 51 per cent of students fail the whole examination. What does the future hold for a country where so many children fail in mathematics, science and the international language?
This year, there is huge public outcry over the O/L mathematics paper (new syllabus), which bowled over many children including those whose performance had been consistently good in that subject. It is reported that some of the candidates who faced the Maths paper were so shocked that they even fainted. Parents are naturally perturbed as their children are highly demoralised after that ordeal. Desperate for a remedy, they have sought the intervention of President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who has directed the Education Ministry to initiate an inquiry.

they didnt want the rural youth from performing well so less facilities to rural areas.
That's why I think there should be another alternative for these people. There are people in the rural areas who do have potential. But no facilities for them because there are no funds. Why make it completely free education, if some funds are taken, they can allocate these funds to provide facilities where there are none. |

Weren't you guys the ones that have been trying to justify that this war is between the sinhalese and tamils?? Now you are talking about muslims killing tamils and tamils killing muslims as retaliation??
probelm (killing each other) between tamil amd muslim stopped long ago. but probelm between tamil and sinhalese still continues
So all those muslim murders that i put up in my previous post, are retaliation attacks??
yes. muslim homeguard acting with sinhala army and stf have butchered mant tamil civilinas. nowadays muslim people stopped directlty helping sinhala army killing tamil.
Then from now on, stop referring to this war as being between the sinhalese and tamils...
it is between sinhalese and tamil.
there is no war between tamil and muslim or no war between muslim and sinhalese at the moment.
because look how many muslims have been killed in 'retaliation' to the attacks that the muslims have done on tamils! So you must agree now tthat this is not a war between sinhalese and tamils!
muslim took part/helped in the attack on tamil civilians by sinhala army. mulslim are used by sinhalese for their agenda.
currently there is no probelm between tamil and muslim. the person (karuna) who ordered to kill muslim is with the govt now.

In Politics we will never know what works and what does not..Yes!! LTTE gave it to MR but initially for the first year there were no War talk..and we all thought peace will prevail but after the sluice gate issue and the failed attempt on SF life may be MR was under pressure.
I am certain money exchanged hands..between MR and VP.
I still think the major mistake by VP is splitting with Karuna.
anyway Past is Endless, this war has taken a lot of our youth from both sides..
we can only hope and pray for Peace..when ? only God knows |

You know. The A'level Physics exam. Our kids have to learn formulas by heart, where as kids else where these are given in a formula sheet. No wonder they run scared. Why is this? Why make these exams so tough? Because there is no space in the Universities for all of them. You still say free education is good? |

the issue is these people are hard pressed for funds. so how could they pay in the first place. hence the need for free education.
Kural
