Just found this from Defencewire

The first step towards a two state solution was offered in 1994 when Chandrika Kumaratunga came to power. It was to start with a 10yr interim administration. The LTTE was soon back with suicide boats and attacks on president what not. They felt very superior then. Now, when they are weak, you want to again talk peace.

Ok gentlemen, good night all.

Thalai,
I would love to have a longer discussion with you on one of these threads soon (assuming time permits you). We may have very different ideas and beliefs but I always found your views informative. You should use this forum to educate us with what you as a Tamil think. Helps enormously to understand where you are coming from. Occasional brickbats are also welcome!

Many thanks again

I think Anton Balasinham had some thoughts and intention about solving this problem through the Chandrika governemnt. But VP had other ideas and he is up for war. As SK63 is pointing out, VP misjudged the military team in hand with MR.

That is why many think that Velu is an asset to have.

But, now he can go because most of the problems are solved.

Thalaivar, SK 63

I agree with you guys. It is not only Prabhakaran that was unwilling to move forward with the peace process. SL DPU forces were assasinating key leaders of the LTTE during the peace process. The Sinhala State cannot exist without anti-Tamil racism and the LTTE could not exist without the Sinhala State. They are twins, not identical but fraternal, since LTTE was born a few hisotrical moments after the Sinhala State.

Will Sonia Gandhi pardon Prabhakaran

The Tamil Nadu leaders who participated in this meeting have declared that even if India s P.M. had a desire to resolve this issue , others who are involved in taking decisions on this are not interested. Who are these individuals behind Singh taking decisions ? This question merits inquiry. This individual is none other than the Congress leader Sonia Gandhi. Naturally, she has a right to take this role because her husband was assassinated by the Tamil Tigers - main party to this the Tamils ethnic issue .The Tigers not only assassinated her husband, but also for three months prior to his death sent their representatives to meet Rajiv Gandhi expressing their wish to co cooperate with him only to deceive him. Their representative was Kasi Anandan.

This is the reason why we cannot deal with LTTE.

We cannot trust VP.

Food for some thought:

.....THE WAY FORWARD
By Yarlan
June 8, 2007

About the author: The original proposals of former President Chandrika Kumarutunga's on devolution of power had very strong resemblance to the detailed proposals given in 1995 by this author to one of her close advisors. After an eleven-year absence, the author deemed it necessary for a reflection on what had gone terribly wrong. We all feel
strongly that Sri Lanka desperately needs a clean break from its muddled past. A new path needs to be created that promises a better future where every man, woman and child in Sri Lanka can aspire to live with dignity, peace and free of fear or persecution. The question is whether the country s leaders, judging by their conduct since 1948, are
capable of this transition. Or, are they going to repeat the mistakes of the past century in the 21st Century?....

You want the rest of the document? Yarlan is a penname. The actual proposals were drafted under another penname, Manivannan.

http://www.tamilnet.com/art.html?catid=13&artid=27753

The SLA has admitted that 25 soldiers were killed, 10 soldiers were missing and around 160 soldiers sustained injuries in the fighting on Tuesday explaining that they made a 'tactical withdrawal' in Ki'laali.

On 5th March 1991 the meeting took place. It is Malini Parthasarathy of the Hindu newspaper who arranged this meeting. Prabhakaran conveyed his greetings and blessings through Kasi Anandan to Gandhi as the future Prime Minister of India. Prabhakaran also explained to Gandhi as to how their relationship could be fortified. Rajiv Gandhi in turn asked Tiger leader Prabhakaran to make his request in writing by a letter bearing his signature. Gandhi stated that this will enable him to consider his request for implementation in the event of his being returned to power. This message was conveyed by Kasi Anandan to Kittu, an LTTE leader and an associate of Prabhakaran, who was in London. But, this request met with no response. What Rajiv Gandhi and the Indian Intelligence service thought was that Prabhakaran was trying to repair their dented relationship with the future P.M. of India.

.....THE WAY FORWARD
By Yarlan
June 8, 2007

Originally written in 2006, edited later in 2007. The proposals I referred to were forwarded to Neelan Thiruchelvam, a senior Minister in the government, mailed directly to the President's office. And yes, with some changes, the proposals were given to the representatives of the LTTE as well.

Because of who my relatives are (and Appah's old friends), I was able to pull it off. Yet, I could not put name on the documents due to fears of facing threast from certain quarters.
