To Pawan98 and other Sinhala Members of this Forum:
I wanted to say this yesterday. But, between work and having to write few other things, I forgot about you. I am really sorry for the losses you had suffered. Not just you, and for countless other Sinhalese civilians who got caught up in those bomb blasts in and around Colombo. They, just like the Tamils in the northeast of the country didn't have to die like this. I don't place a value on human life based on his ethnicity, religion or language. Especially in the case of Sri Lanka, the majority of its people are all descendants of people from various regions of India at some point in time. This fundamental truth failed to dawn on those who lead the country to war with itself.
I didn't list all the members of my extended family who had died or were injured as the result of the war, going back to 1984. Too many to list here. But one of their deaths really saddened me. He was killed in a shell attack from the Navy. He had great talent for painting and constructing complicated colorful kites. He could have one day become a great artist. There was also this suicide because of her being witness to a horrible killing (after more than 10 years from the time of incident). I don't want to go into this anymore.
I am going to request you something. When this war ends with certainty, please make a trip to the north (or even the liberated areas in the East), and see for yourself what kind of destruction this war has done to the people living there. If a lot of Sinhala civilians from the South had done this during the time of CFA, this war may not have started again (notwithstanding the machinations of LTTE leadership, JVP, and JHU). I believe that within the next six months to one year, a final settlement to the ethnic conflict is very possible. But, the ordinary people from all walks of life must get involved to make that a real possibility. So, that in the not too distant future, the only guns fired in Sri Lanka would be from the police officers returning fire to armed robbers or criminals. Or, the occasional warning shots from the Sri Lanka Navy or the Coast Guard against international poachers or smugglers in our waters. Isn't that a future worth our heritage?
