USA & Russia refuse to sign cluster bomb ban

Thursday, 4 December 2008 - 4:56 AM SL Time

The USA & Russia backed away from signing a treaty to ban cluster bombs in Oslo, Norway late yesterday. Here is what they said.

`The U.S., Russia and other countries refusing to sign the treaty say cluster bombs have legitimate military uses, such as repelling advancing troop columns.`

It is a big business if they can sell those bombs to countries like Sri Lanka.. They can give credits with interests..

LTTE coolies will be thoroughly disappointed with this development as they were banking high on giving GOSL a drubbing on this issue on the eve of signing this treaty. Just take a look at feature articles and headlines in Tamilnet of late.

This is not a big deal, US has not even signed with the Int. court but does not stop them from trying to take others.
It is do as I say and not do as I do policy. Unfortunately they have the financial and military mussel to implement it.

Israel is famous for its cluster bombs.

This would give VP the legitamacy for expanding his defense spending to make cluster bombs! He could easily add custer capability to the new KILI Series!

Imagine a squadron of TAFs, loaded with newly developed cluster bombs, flying over Colombo suburbs in one dark night!

In a statement, the U.S. State Department said it agrees with the humanitarian aims of the treaty but cannot sign it because a general ban on cluster munitions will put the lives of our military men and women, and those of our coalition partners, at risk.
