At least 8,000 young women have become widowed, as most of these dead are between 19 and 27 years of age, he told a media briefing at the Opposition Leader's Office in Colombo today (Dec. 03rd).
The government, in the near future, will have to suffer repercussions of the loss of this young strength, the MP said, adding that it was unfair the widows lose payments for their late husbands, if they remarry under existing laws.
He said, 'This government is waging war to suit its political agenda, and not in accordance with military strategies to minimize casualties among our heroic soldiers.'

CHENNAI: Janata Party president Subramanian Swamy on Wednesday reiterated that the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) was part of the problem in Sri Lanka and could never be made a part of the solution.
Criticising the Congress for the meeting between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and a delegation of Members of Parliament belonging to Tamil Nadu on the Sri Lankan issue in New Delhi on Tuesday, he said the LTTE was the most dangerous and cruel terrorist organisation, which had been training naxalites and others for years. Terrorist, whether Muslim or Tamil, needs the same treatment. Be wiped out. There is no room for double standards, he said. |
