PAD and LTTE

Wednesday, 3 December 2008 - 4:56 PM SL Time

It is just over, the Bangkok airport is slowly reopening. While it has caused enough trouble to travelers, the name of the group behind the siege is interesting. They are backed by coup expert military and call themselves Peoples Alliance for Democracy (PAD). Their mission was to over turn an elected government, an act defying all the fundamentals of a functioning democracy. Yet they have the word democracy in their name.

Similarly LTTE, or LTTP as we call it now, is restricting the movement of thousands of people in Vanni district and had not ever demonstrated any faith in liberalism. Yet they have LIBERATION right at the front of their name plate.

Such practice is common in every sector these days, and that has made me not to touch anything with the label FREE on it.

i guess, it is your view...so

i agree with you to a certain extent (protesting peacefully is allowed and the peoples have the right to protest as long as they want in a democracy country) but you seems to think the military men has not right to protest?? or they should not be adhering to the democracy norms?? either way, the protest was a bit over the limit ,i agree..on the other hand election boycotts are not illegal......if you did not know.

on the other hand the sinhalas unilaterally call srilanka (i do not agree with the name srilanka or the flag or the territorial borders) a democratic socialist republic of srilanka..unlike Thailand which is a kingdom of Thailand but the protests were not suppressed by the kingdom.

after reading what you wrote ,it seems to me, there is a confusion regarding the words democracy and majoritarianism...before we go to the ltte...

can you please explain the meaning of democracy in your own words..
