AussieBoy,
Barack Obama didn't say that sovereign nations can bomb its own citizens in the guise of fighting terrorism. He never said that sovereign nations have the right to imprison, torture and eliminate political opponents and journalists who refuse to toe the official Party line. Lastly, Barack Obama, or for that matter, any leader of an established democracy in the West would never condone the actions of a State where its security apparatus assumes the role of judge, jury and executioner in summarily executing people it considers to be 'terrorists.' Mind you these are all supposed to be Sri Lankan Citizens. Does the word Chemmani ring a bell to you? What about the mass graves unearthed in the south of the country where the Sinhala youths suspected of JVP involvement were buried? Or, the Tamils 'terrorist' suspects whose bodies were dumped in lakes in rivers around Colombo?
If Barack Obama lived in Sri Lanka, at the very least, his supporters would have received death threats. Or, his own house would have been subject to gunfire or grenade attack in the middle of the night.
I suspect your parents were wise enough to see where Sri Lanka was heading. That is why they left Sri Lanka. Unfortunately for you, you seeing a Sri Lanka through the video game style presentation of events unfolding many time zones away. Seeing can be believing. Why do you think, that of all the people, even Sarath Fonseka wanted to emigrate to the United States? I believe, deep inside, you know the answer. |

there is no point in saying all these here to these people.
now they are in a big dream of capturing all land of tamil and they were so far succeessful to some extent. so they will not be prepared to listen to all these until tigers regain the lost territory. then only they will talk about political solution that and this. |

Yarlan,
Welcome to the forum and its good to read your well constructed posts. I did not get a chance to read about what you had to go through, which you say you mentioned some days back. We all carry some kind of baggage and hence our thought processes and the way we view a particular problem will be coloured, no matter how much we think our view to be independent. So while not agreeing with everything you say, I still think your view is more balanced than most. |
