The Sri Lankan government has repeatedly said a ceasefire with the LTTE could be considered only if the Tigers lay down arms and come to the negotiating table.
Dec 01, Colombo: Sri Lankan government today reiterated that the ongoing operations in the North will cease only after all civilians are fully liberated from the rebel hands.
Making a special statement to the local media Defence Spokesman Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said the operations in Wanni are being carried out successfully at the moment.
The Minister pointed out that the capturing strategically important Kokavil this morning is an example of the victorious path of the security forces. He said the LTTE threat to Jaffna ended with the capture of Pooneryn by the forces few weeks ago.
He said the government will reconstruct the Jaffna-Pooneryn A-32 road at a cost of around Rs. 500 million in the near future.
The Sri Lankan government has vowed to eradicate the LTTE terrorism from the country. It has repeatedly said a ceasefire with the LTTE could be considered only if the Tigers lay down arms and come to the negotiating table.

Mareesa,
Have all the civilians in Jaffna been killed by SLA?
Have all the civilians in the East been killed by SLA?
Has the SL Tamil majority living in cleared areas been killed by SLA?
Velu prefers to drag his people with him to hell than allowing them to construct their future. His big mistake was to favorise the election of MR. Unlike his predecessors, MR is only ready for real talks after the LTTE surrender. He has drawn the conclusions from past mistakes.

The Tamil civilians only want to be liberated from the SLA.
So if the SLA leaves the civilians WILL be liberated.
The civilians have had enough of the pain and suffering caused by the SLA.
Just leAVE AND ALL WILL BE WELL.
We do not need to be liberated.
Do not flatter yourself, no one is expecting you to liberate anyone.
Go liberate the country's resources from the people.

If the LTTE has the slightest concern for the future of Tamils and others, they should stop this wasteful war right now !
It can save upto Five Billion US Dollars in the long run, if they stop fighting right now . |

It is due to the concern of Tamils the LTTE is fighting tooth and nail cos it knows what will happen if the GoSL takes control of the Tamils.
Everyday we hear how Tamils are arrested and disappear, Tamil civilians being bombed all day and night all in the guise of fighting terrorism . Only Tamil civilians are dieing daily.
Just think what will happen when there is no one to question the actions of the GoSL. |

First ask them or allow them to express their wish if they want to be 'liberated'? Go on give them the right to determine what they want and DO NOT force your hegemony on them. Colonialism is thing of the past, now they want the right to determine their future.
They elected 22 of the 3 MPs by expressing their right of democracy. Consult those MPs as to what they want, if you believe and respect democratic principle. |

Please remove the guns behind their backs, then we'll talk.

Which Tamils are you referring to? Does this include Tamils from Colombo, Batti, Jaffna?
Only Tamil civilians are dieing daily.
Yeah, may be, but remember masses of other civilians get killed by roadside bombs frequently...may be that's not that bad for you. |

Fair enough.
BUT what is the definition of 'Fully liberated'? According to the govt definition of 'fully liberated' is the Eastern Province and it's people 'fully liberated' from the tigers?
If the answer is 'yes' then that's fine, but if the govt says still the 'Eastern Province' and it's people are not fully liberated from the tigers and still there is 'clearing' to be done THEN we do have a problem as the North is likely to be similar to the East as we see it today. It would only suggest that this war will not be ending soon! |
